nope, it was right near (the new) Luna Lounge...

Bozu (found the card in my wallet)
www.oibozu.com 296 Grand St.

also there's this inexpensive and really tasty Filipino/east asian place, Dragonfly, although it might be closed at the moment.

oh yeah, i know bozu!

but it's not so much sushi.... it's sort of japanese tapas. i am with you though, it is great! i love their food, and their sake selection is great. The infused sochu is sort of like russian roulette though, some are amazing and some taste like sewage.

the best part of the joint is the acrylic filled bar. really cool vibe in there. also very easy to drop a shitload of money and still be hungry.

screw it, lets talk about places in brooklyn some more. I think that williamsburg has a lot of really great spots, and its only one or two subway stops out of manhattan. Tell your friends to grow some balls, neb.

1) fette sau. ---> this is on metropolitan just west of havemeyer. It's a relatively new smoke house, and one of the best bbq joints i've been to. you can get a jug of beer and drink it out of mason jars. nice.

2) DuMont ---> right by the lorimer stop on the l. It's just a little bit south an on the other side of the street from kellog's diner on union. get the mac and cheese. you have no fucking idea.

3) zipi zape ---> metropolitan and berry. Good spanish tapas joint. one of m favorite spots.

4) bonita ---> bedford around south 3rd. There are probably better places to get mexican food in the area, but this place is the bomb for 3 reasons:

- fish tacos - the best i've ever had.

- michiladas - best in the city, G. It's a beer cocktail. beer on the rocks with lime chili and a bunch of other shit that i don't know what it is. served in a glass with salted rim.

- agua fresca - drink it, yatch. it's good here.

i could keep going, but off the top of the knot, that's where i would go.

Tell them to go early to Gramercy Tavern and eat in the front room (the bar). Prices are really reasonable ($18 - mid 20's for one of the best restaurants in America) - you eat off the a la carte menu. Best to get there before 6 or you'll be waiting 2 1/2 hours for a table but its really really nice.

(also brooklyn)

oh shit, how could i forget M???

M shanghai den, on havemeyer between grand and south first, has some excellent food at a very reasonable price.

go between 11 and midnight for 3 dollar dumplings if you're also drinking alcohol.

if you don't go then, the dumplings are worth the usual 6 anyway.

-steamed juicy pork buns - so fucking good.

-spicy wantons - also fucking good

everything else on the app menu is also good.

entres are tight too. shanghai lo main is made with thick noodles, very fresh ingredients, nice.

kung pao chicken? yes! eat it.

almost everything on the menu there is good. (don't get the duck, it's good, but ehhhh, not great, y'know?)

also, the owner, May, is a cutie and a great person. If you tell her leisure muffin sent you, she'll tell you stories about how fucked up and awesome i really am.

Oh, Jesus H. Christ, I could be typing all night about this. Neb, you might as well just shoot me an email.

The boys here are all correct, Williamsburg is fucking sick with restaurants, I know because I live here. I have a friend coming for 4 days on Thursday, and the places here are so damn fantastic, I'm not even going to bother taking her into the city for meals.

BUT, as Neb has pointed out, his friends would like to eat in Manhattan. Seriously, a little help from you as to what their tastes and budget are. Might I point out that if you head to NY Mag Restaurants, you will notice that they have listed 2,341 restaurants for the city of Manhattan alone. Brooklyn, add another 500. This is actually a fantastic reference for food, what's great is how they have it broken down so tightly by neighborhood, too. I've used this list numerous times to find something new and amazing, and the reviews never let me down.

I eat in so many damn restaurants, and it runs the gamut from hipster burger places (The Lodge :D ) to taking out business associates to Tao. So let us know what kind of restaurant experience they are looking for, or if they just want to know where to avoid if they happen to be in Times Square.

I have to agree with ilia on Tomoe, that place gets complete raves from every single person I know. Nobody argues that it isn't one of the best sushi places around. And you won't be paying Nobu prices.

I love all of Mario Batali's places (he's got 9 here), Otto is a great pizza style joint, The Spotted Pig has been name dropped more times than I can count (everyone loves to tell which celebrity(s) they saw there. Bono!) So his restaurants alone could take up all meals.

Another surefire restauratuer to follow is Jean-Georges. Mercer Kitchen, Perry St., Spice Market, I love all of them.

Seriously, what am I doing, just send me an email.

Damn, muffin, we should start an Ableton Brooklyn Food Club!! We seem to have the same fondness for Brooklyn's restaurants.

My faves (and there are STILL plenty I have not been to):

Fornino - Brick oven Pizza
Silent H - Vietnamese
Acqua Santa - Italian
Egg - Brunch
D.O.C. - Wine Bar/Enoteca
Aurora - Italian
Dumont - American (I believe the Mac & Cheese has already been praised here)
My Moon - Turkish
Surf Bar - Italian / Sea Food
Sea - Thai

And don't forget the best steak house in the entire country: Peter Luger.
Man, that's just off the top of my head.

MEXICANA MAMA in the West Village and then go get a KRACK KUPKAKE at Magnolia Bakery;a few blocks from MM's.

I promise your pancreas will go into shock trying to offset that frosting....;)

bigbadotis wrote:I know this is a little touristy, but, Lombardi's. Even though it gets one of its claims to fame from being "the first" pizzeria in the country, the pizza really is great.
I had a pizza there last week, they're definitely worth a stop if you get a pizza craving. An advantage is you're close to Mulberry, so afterwards you can grab a nice glass of Aussie red at Eight Mile Creek.

Another famous old NYC landmark is Katz's Deli on 1st and Houston - a pastrami on rye palace and the place where Meg Ryan faked this:

My reaction when I had them was "Wow. This is a really good cupcake."

Then about 30 seconds later I thought "Who the fuck wants to eat cupcakes?" and I never went back.
