How to make Acid Bells?

Post by footslider G » Tue Oct 16, 2007 11:29 am

Hi,

I have a track that seems to be big at the moment and is called Acid bells and is by a group called efdemin. The best mix to hear what I'm about to tell you is a remix by Matt O'Brien.

They use a sample in it that seems to delay a loop (of bells) but then as the delay is happening it detunes them randomly and makes them sound all bendy which i think is due to altering the speed in the delay process.

Can any of you guys actually enlighten me on how they have achieved this and how I could emulate it?

All help gratefully received.
Cheers

You will need to post a mp3 somewhere of what you are talking about and link it here for anyone to be able to help you recreate the sound.

You can listen to the mp3 here :

I think they only detuned the bells on off the original key and
gradualy come back to the normal key.

This track is realy good and pumping but I still prefer the original mix,
it's much more late 90's techno style..... hey I'm 41....maybe that's why
prefer this version

Hi,

Thanks for your insight.

I'm 38 so that's obviously why I like the other mix ;)

Efdemin actually contacted me on myspace about this and said they used Lexicon plug-ins for this effect.
Cheers

i think the matt o'brien mix is also using ring modulation to distort the bell sound and make it more dissonant / atonal, as well as the detuning that dabedoo pointed out in the original mix.

for what it's worth i prefer the matt o'brien mix, being 34 'n all. :)
