when in brooklyn, u need to go to PETER LUGERS. some of the best steak i've ever had. google it and make a reservation.

A little touristy but if you see any broadway shows at night after check out the carnegie deli, food is good, atmosphere is good, imo it is what a "jewish new york deli" is all about.

I liked the DB Bistro for "the world's best burger", Smith and Wollenskys for steak, and just about any of the delis for a lunchtime sandwich big enough for 2 people to eat with some left over.

any fucking way i will third luger, completely off the fucking chain. book a year in advance.

dumont burger is typical billyburg faggery full of abletwats yakkin about the new play they are providing a sonic bedscape for. fette sau is bullshit, total ripoff joint for trendy twats who have no concept of proper cue.

the mercer kitchen has great food, even if the myriad staff are somewhat 'out to lunch'. pretty reasonable prices.

theres a nice french spot called orsay up in the otherwise generis UES, its worth the hike

my sisters work for an Austrian chef with a few kick ass places. Blauegans is Austrian pub style with some good beers down in the financial district. Wallse is awesome for a nice dinner, pricey wine though. and Sabarski is way up town and much expensive.

Dos Caminos on Park Ave is phenomenal if you have a hankering for Mexican.

Oh crap I totally forgot another absolute favorite: La Esquina.

This is one of those fabled New York places where, as you can see in the picture on the website, it looks like some retro dive diner. Yet you make a reservation to sit downstairs, and they walk you through this little stairway, you go THROUGH the kitchen, and end up in the most bad-ass chic restaurant. It's amazing Mexican food, and the vibe of the place can't be beat. Again, celebrity sightings not uncommon. This is a definite must in my book.

well, I'm not from NYC but I was there for 10 days a couple of weeks ago and just around the corner from where we were staying (near the corner of 28th and Lexington av) there was the Blue Smoke (www.bluesmoke.com) burger/barbecue place which had some truly delicious burgers indeed. Well recommended.
