QUEST 4 HELP w Modifier function on Midi Controller

Post by litL1 » Tue Oct 16, 2007 2:12 pm

Hi,
(Apologies for the longish post, in my attempt to be clear.)

To begin with, i've been trying to map one button on my Axiom 49 to function as a modifier to allow me to re-assign further eight buttons, thereby allowing for multiple functions on a limited number of available controllers, somehow like this:
Button9:
Ctrl Assign: 154 (MIDI CC Increment)
Data 1: 119 (CC#)
Data 2: 01 (Min. Value)
Data 3: 03 (Max. Value) -- if what i'm trying works, this could be extended, potentially allowing for 127 assignments of the other hardware controlls.
Button(s)1-8:
Ctrl Assign: 146 (MIDI CC on/off)
Data1: 32 (CC#... through to CC#39)
Data2: 00 (Min.Value)
Data3: 127 (Max.Value)

Utilizing Midipipe, i so far managed to use B9 for the "Assign"-function in Live's Mackie Automap, allowing me to adress things like PAN, MUTE, SEND.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE:
is to set up (probably with Midipipe's Applescript plug-in, but perhaps there are other tools? sysEx Librarian springs to mind) a way to have e.g. Value "1" of B9 re-assign Bs1-8 (and eventually their corresponding Faders1-8 ) to various functions, somehow like this:

if B9 is Value 1 then set Ctrl Assign of B1-B8 to 147(Note on/off) and Data1 of B1-B8 to Value 0-7(MC's "Arm") and...

if B9 is Value 2 then set Ctrl Assign of B1-B8 to 147(Note on/off) and Data1 of B1-B8 to Value 16-23(MC's "Mute") ... and so on.

Though i think this might be possible via the Applescript plug-in within Midipipe, i couldn't figure it out
And i thought about using it's message converter plug-in to send sysex back to the Midi Controller... or directly to Live.. ? But am stuck!!

After reading through 100s of pages here and elsewhere, looking at python, LC Xmu, MAX/MSP, sysex, etc., to find a way of setting up a map that caters for my main needs (instant access to ARM & MUTE, and semi-instant access to SENDS & SOLO, on 8 tracks + instant access on any selected tracks' Devices/Plugins & BANK up/dwn to access further tracks/device pages) and my available "limited" gear (Axiom49 & iBook), i must admit defeat in my attempt to understand and program this by myself.
But i believe there are amongst this community folks, for whom this would be a snippet, or have perhaps already surpassed this hurdle.. Would you be willing to help?

Well, I am really with a some problems configuring my Roland PCR (not a Native controller). It seems that Live hasn't a flexible midi mapping management.

Roland control maps are loaded in Live through livesets. Now I have 2 diferent control maps tha I have downloaded from Roland website. One controls 8 tracks on session view and other controls simpler and impulse. The problem is that I can't merge both even merging livesets that contains each configuration. Besides that even when I load simpler/impulse liveset (it loads pcr controls for simpler on track 7, and impulse on track 8) if I create another track with simpler it appears withou any midimapping.

Any idea to solve this "enigma" is welcome

Thanks

I was just forgeting but this is a "pain in the ass" as well:

I have some livesets already saved and now I would like to add some remote control on eaach one. Once merging livesets doesn't seem to result and doing the mapping manually in each one seems to hard, is there some process to do it in a automatic (or at least semiautomatic) way?

Maybe getting applescript to work in MidiPipe could be a workable solution also for you, too, if on a mac. While my Controller is native, i cannot easily merge its two available automaps or include Mackie's, without a utility like Midipipe.
And think it is easier for me to go with just one automap that fulfills most of my wishes, and then complement this with my own settings via a utility... until i might have the $$ to look closer at Lemur or Dexter, which from far appear to be awesome solutions..

To your questions, though - have you had a look at user configuration script? Not sure, but this could allow you to at least create a PCR template for your most important settings merged.

Yes, i had tried (for one night) LC Xmu - and was, for obvious reasons, supa exited about it! Then, as i went on, i felt ... hmmm ... isn't it sucking a lot of CPU from my little trusty G4??
Plus - these assignment-, modifier-, and Mode-"thingies" in it's manual (though, admittedly very clearly explained) didn't want to enter into my fried brain-matrix.. So i barked up the MidiPipe Tree, with its very promising Applescript plug-in, telling myself i'll have another look at LC Xmu later..
So, being more of a progrocker than programmer, i failed applescript... and later quickly became now!

So, i just browsed the online man. again, and am again so exited, printing out the important pages, and hope this time i get a better hang of the Mode section, in connection to Ch Select 1 - 8 (as it's supposed to do 99% of what i need) + the ability to customize the pref files... sweet Mr. Pitcairn!!! Plus, i may be utilizing some form of MidiPipe after all ... CPU allowing.

I hope, this will finally be a successful and successfully my final night, setting up my perfect controller ... final, yeh right

see y'all soon ..

Unfortunately I don't have a Mac but just a PC Laptop.

When y talked about userscripts, were you referring to my keyboard or were y refering Ableton's scripts? I have consulted Live's manual and I didn't find any reference to scripts.
