Syncing Live 6 to Serato

Post by StSt » Fri Nov 17, 2006 11:34 pm

Has anyone managed to do this?

I have a tour coming up in March with a crew that uses Mac laptops running Serato. I'd like to be able to sync my Live 6 (PC) to their setup, but I don't know very much about Serato, and they know nothing about Midi or sync in general.

Any help - even if it's a definite "no" - would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

StSt

I really (& urgently) need confirmation of this too. Also we want to run one laptop with Ableton and another with Serato (or equivalent DJ software). Any help would be much appreciated.

hawtin wannabies, haha ...

it's not possible because serato doesn't have midi sync, right?
on the other hand you do have devices that can generate clock synced from incoming signal or tap tempo that Live can sync to ..

The only thing you can do is get a Xone 3d or the new Xone 2d coming out and just use their midi generator and run Live as a slave. I think you are going to be better off just using live 7 when it comes out instead though.

Nihad --> fuck off.

StSt and Daddek --> There is the Redsound generator or the Kaoss Pad 3 which generate clock signal from analog input signal, not sure how accurate they are. Or, tap tempo in Live 5/6 and use a relative knob mapped to clip playback position with quantize set to zero to have a 'nudge' ability a bit like using decks. Live 7 has global nudge integrated.

Thanks. It looks like the best thing is to wait for the 7 update. Although it will still be a case of Ableton being "nudged" to match the tempo of Serato, like a deejaying method (ie much room for human error), rather than an automatic machine tempo sync, right?

The 3rd party audio input syncs sound good, but being that ableton has serious sync problems with itself, 3rd party hardware syncing two different platforms just sounds too precarious to trust live. Can anyone can confirm the stability of third party audio input sync devices? (eg redsound)

Yes... methinks.

I've been looking into this, trying to figure it out myself.
