So what's the limitations of educational discounts?
So what's the limitations of educational discounts?
I have a family member who is a teacher and therefore can get me whatever with the educational discount. Let's pretend that software is Logic. So what are the limitations? I think I remember people saying no updates or upgrades? I can understand no deals on major upgrades, but for updates?? That fix known problems? What's the dealio??

before I purchased my academic license I asked if I could use it professionally and the answer was: yes
Dear ******,
Thanks for your e-mail and sorry for my late reply.
Here are the answers to your questions.
You can use your educational license for producing commercial music.
As long as you are a student you can upgrade to newer versions for a discounted price (we then will ask again for a proof of eligibility). As soon as you finish your studies you can stay current for our standard upgrade prices. You don't have to start all over again with a new license.
To order you can use the attached order form.
We also offer a download version for 219 USD and Operator for 79 USD.
Please write again if you need more information.
Best regards,
Ulrich

You can't upgrade the Edu version of Logic 7 to 8 and I guess it'll be the same with Logic 8 to whatever comes next in 5 year's time.
I don't believe this statement to be true,
can you provide documentation?

It's a lot more than 10%.b0unce wrote:it aint worth the hassle for a measly 10% discount, get the full license.
Live 6 retails at about 275 quid in the UK. Edu discount is about a hundred pounds cheaper. Well worth it.
I'm not sure it applies to upgrades though, but there's always some tasty options with the Abes.
