Logic Plug Ins, In Ableton?

Hi,

Is it possible to use Logic Plug Ins within Ableton, on a PC?

If so, can someone let me know how? Is it a case of just dropping into the vst folder?

Not possible - logic is mac only anyway im afraid

actually theres no plugin in logic that one couldnt find a better replacement for in pc land

SJ is correct, but no disrespect to Logic which has better plugins inside the box than any other DAW software, excepting Samplitude on PC which has equally good built in plugins (both having the odd advantage on certain plugins). And because Apple are playing price slashing games so they can control the Mac market and lead PC users to Mac, Samplitude costs twice as much now.

Sonar also has some great plugins in the box and Cubase 4 at least improved the synths (big time) and some of the plugins, and the fact they are using the vst 3.0 format is an advantage as Steinberg have not (and will not for some time yet) release the SDK to 3rd parties. vst 3.0 plugins are smart as when no audio is being passed through them they use no CPU unlike vst 2.4 and earlier and it copes with multiple outputs better.

Well, Logic has quite some unique plugins for what you will not find a replacement

Space Designer (with possibility to design synthetic IRs), Delay Designer, Sculpture, UltraBeat, EVB3( - and no, B$ is no alternative .... ) just to name a few. of coarse in the traditional sector FIR-EQ, comp, match-eq there are alternatives.

i will be the first to say ultrabeat is the sexiest drum machine ive ever seen...

step sequencer Ableton, you hear that?

okay some of those tools werent there the last time i used Logic and conceptually seem interesting for sound design.

for eq's and dynamics and fundamental effects i stand by my quote.

I wish...

Imagine Delay designer, Space designer, Ultrabeat, sculpture, Platinum Reverb, Guitar Amp pro, ES2, and all the rest of them, inside Ableton.

And sure you can find replacements for the standard effects in logic, but not ones that sound that good, and take that little cpu.

I imagine every DAW has killer features/plugins both included and missing.

You just go with the best package and add 3rd party plugs from there.

Of course, you could also choose one extra daw and connect via ReWire or freeware alternatives (Jack, IAC, Midiyoke).

I am not disputing Logic has some nice plug ins. Every platform has something unique, although usually as they are bought from 3rd parties in many cases, that means alternatives are purchasable in the open market.

The convolution reverbs in Sonar and Samplitude are awesome too. The vintage channel in Sonar 6 and 7 (which is a rebranded Kjaerhus plugin) is very cool too.

Every review of Samplitude gives it kudos for it's plugins. I don't like it's interface much and the MIDI (although much improved) is still a weakness but it's plugins are really good. One of the plugin designers, Sascha Eversmeier also has some good free VST plugins, such as block fish etc.

And Live's plugins are mostly OK for free too, and the improved compressor and EQ8 in L7 is an extra bonus.

the only reason i asked was because i had my old logic instaltion disks under my bed, and just wanted to load up some of the plug ins for that extra option...didnt intend to spark a logic vs ableton war..

on a different note...RTAS..there's no funky little programme to make them work outside of Pro Tools is there?

Maybe you can find a wrapper by FXpansion, but really sounds likr you're going after the most headache-inducing ways of making music possible

whys that? my theory would be trying to introduce audio units & RTAS, which are solely restricted to a mac or pro tools system, would broaden creativity, and approach to writing computer based music..
