I don't think that's correct. But, in any case, how the hell would anyone know unless you made a point of saying exactly how you'd made your work?

You can't upgrade the Edu version of Logic 7 to 8 and I guess it'll be the same with Logic 8 to whatever comes next in 5 year's time.

I don't believe this statement to be true,

can you provide documentation?
I don't have any links handy, but I can attest to seeing this on the side of logic edu boxes in university stores. (And seeing lots of forum discussions when logic 8 came out where people suddenly realized this restriction.)

when i enquired to ableton if there was any limitations they told me there were none, and then put a smily face after it.

so that solves that debate.

You can use your educational license for producing commercial music.
Interesting. Nice to know, actually. I wonder why they slap the 'educational use only' stickers on the educational boxes though? They certainly don't inform you that you can't release commercial tunes with an educational version before you buy.

Good thing I don't write commercial music.

I wouldn't put it past Apple to somehow encode something that lets them know your track was produced using an educational version of Logic but I don't see how other companies like NI could implement that for a single instrument. Although they have done a bang up job of making sure you can't use their full versions by crashing Live every time you open a set.

It's a lot more than 10%.

Live 6 retails at about 275 quid in the UK. Edu discount is about a hundred pounds cheaper. Well worth it.

I'm not sure it applies to upgrades though, but there's always some tasty options with the Abes.

I think I remember people saying no updates or upgrades? I can understand no deals on major upgrades, but for updates?? That fix known problems? What's the dealio??

apple only offer 10% edu discount on Logic. , which amounts to about $50

If you didn't want us to hijack the thread (on the ableton forum) by discussing live, maybe the title should have included the word 'logic'. hth. hand. :)

I'm talking about Logic but it was more of a blanket question so that we could maybe find out what other company's policies are. I won't attempt the edu discount with Live because I mostly use that and I want to support the Abes. Apple on the otherhand I feel has already taken enough of my money so I wanted to look at that option.
