I finally purchased my own Live - and I can't get one very basic thing into my head.
How are session and arrangement view linked to each other ?
If I throw two clips into arrangement view (adjacent on one track) I get the waveforms and both clips show up fine. But if I switch to session view the track #1 slot is just empty and doesn't play anything.
On the other hand:
If I load the clips in session view into two slots on track 1 - they're there and play fine - but if I switch to arrangement....there are no clips, no waveform....empty. But if i hit play in arrangement view - the clips play !
What am I missing here ?
I think both views should reflect and update each others, maybe this is a completely wrong approach to it.
Sorry for this question, but I feel extremely dumb and couldn't find an explanation for this in either manual or tutorial.
I'm on VISTA - unfortunately....

Arrange and Session both share the same sequencer controls (play/rec/stop) at the top of either page. Both views are exclusive, meaning that you can have different things in one track. The advantage of this is , if your sequencer record is activated, you can "jam" in session view while your arrange view is playing back, and your activity will be recorded, or "remixed" into the arrange view.
The "back-to_arrange"button at the top of the screen turns red when you make changes in session view, indicating that the sound you are hearing differs from what is printed in arrange view. If you click it, the red turns off and you have come "back-to-the-arrangement" and the sound will change accordingly.

Thanks nowtime for this clarification,
makes sense to me now. So I arrange my basic "playlist" (I"ll start practice with basic remixing a few tracks) in arrangement view - cut out and loop portions a.s.o. and can then later on fiddle around on top of this in session view. As a video editor for looong time I'm so used to this linear timeline layout that I really have to rewire my tiny brain around this.
