How to optimize sound output?

Post by Piett » Thu Oct 25, 2007 5:35 am

Hi all, i have searched for the answer to this question withought avail. I just wanted to get some input on how to optimise the sound coming out of ableton.
I am a dj who mixes in a 4 channel configuration with an outboard mixer, i have a firewire 410 soundcard that feeds 4 individual stereo outs to a djm-600 and i use a UC-33e to controle ableton. I use a 4 channel configuration in ableton where the master is not used, each channel corresponds to a channel on the mixer and hence has all its effects duplicated here. each channel has EQ3, auto filter, beat repeat, simple delay, ping pong and compressor 1 wich seldomly is active.
My question is this, when i play my files in iTunes or Torq, they sound much "cleaner" than in ableton, i would like to know if there is a way to make my outputs sound like this, is it a result of all the efx that i have on each channel that is distorting the sound or is there a config that i can do that will make the outputs sound "better"?
If you need any more info on my setup, please feel free to ask.
I thank you in advance, as this is driving me nuts.

are the outputs from Live clipping? ie are the mixer levels in Live constantly pumping in the red, before they hit your hardware mixer?

thats one way you might get the sort of thing youre describing.
