I'm just getting into using Live 6, and I'm discovering clip management to rapidly be becoming a major issue. There are various things to manage:
- Impulse presets (are the samples stored with the presets? if the original files move, are the presets destroyed?)
- I might have 20 clips in 2 projects, all coming from one audio file. And 95% of that audio file might be wasted spaced, taking up limited disk space. What's the best way to manage that situation, and still have these clips available to future projects?
- I have loops scattered all over the place. There are lots of GarageBand loops (which appear to be usable). There's whatever came with Live. There are a dozen CD-ROMs with loop samples from different manufacturers, many of which all seem like they might be useful.
How do you folks manage all this? It doesn't seem that Live 6 has a "library" unless I'm missing something (and I probably am) - you just kind of browse around and hunt for things on your disk. So there's just no way for me to find all hip-hop loops near 90bpm other than hours of organizing and sorting? And even if that is the case, how do I organize and sort (on OSX) in a way that I won't have to redo in 3 months when I realize how much I didn't know about my real needs during the first sort?
