volumes of project played and rendered

Post by niquette » Sun Oct 28, 2007 6:56 pm

sorry if this was asked a million of times before, i honestly tried to find it discussed but failed, so...

this is not exactly a bug or a problem, i'm just interested why and what for..

so i play back a project in ableton (6.0.9. if it matters) and stare into RME digicheck software, namely, totalyser, that shows spectrum and volume and peak and rms and phase. i note the highest peaks to be, say -1.4.

then i render this project to disk (or record it to an audio track in ableton, which gives the same result - the same = with the same problem)

then i play back the rendered or recorded wav and stare into RME Digicheck again and see that the peaks that used to be -1.4 dB are now much lower, and so is rms and the volume.

why could that be so?
please help i can't sleep or eat now until i understand.
thanks a lot.
