who has a Novation XioSynth 25, have a question?

how good of a midi controler is it, can you use it as a controler and hardware synth at the same time and is that easy to do or do you have to go through some rigurous methods?

so basicly i'm trying to figure out whether to go with the novation compact or the xio, it's not really a question of do i need an external synth or not, its more of if I got the same control out of the xio and on top of that could use the synth portion that would be nice.

Xiosynth works well. I have an X-station so I got the Xiosynth to share patches and go a bit more portable - toured Russia with it + a Macbook pro + a trigger finger. Programming is easier with the X-station due to the extra faders and knobs but the xiosynth is easy enough to tweak. The only small issue I have with it is no aftertouch. Not really a big deal as you can assign AT to the X-Y pad. Filters sound a bit better than the X-station and the best part is the engine does not shut off when you switching to controller mode. You can turn off local and use it in Live just like another instrument - assigning the track to the global channel.
