controlling the arrangement using the session slots

hi!

im using reason as a rewire device and want to control the sequencer via live.

so i found out that i can jump between locators pretty easy with assigning keys to them.

but i look for something even more special: i'd like to define various loops in the arrangement and jump to them. i imagine that i could hit a clip that contains a region from the arrangement and actually loops that region. so that the song in reasons sequencer is looped only at that very position.

is it possible to jump in the arrangement using slots in the session view so i can use the session view to control the position and loops in the arrangement? i'd like to launch fill-ins, breaks etc like that as well.

btw: how do i drag parts from the arrangement as clips into slots?

hope i could make it clear what i meant..

i understand what you mean and i wish it 'd be possible. then we could make use of the arrangement's automations while retaining the flexibiity of the session view. i don't think it can be done but i'd love to hear it if it is...

I'm not sure I follow you entirely, but you might be able to do what you're asking using Midi Yoke/Loop BE or IAC on mac etc and map some notes to the arrange locators then have a clip that plays those notes

Hi there,

this is all in theory:

the only suggestion i can make is to try this:
load all your clips that you want to use in Live into session view.

set up a dummy midi track (which won't be used for any sound)

now in arrangement view create "blank" midi clips at each locator on the dummy track.
adjust length of each to the loop length you require in the arrangement.

when you jump to a new locator, click on newer dummy clip and use
apple+L (loop selection)

wella! the loop brace will match length of the new clip
and reason should still follow the new loop arrangement.
click back to session view and continue jamming other clips.

(or if you prefer, you can use an actual audio clip in arrangement view)

hope this works.

Seems like it would be easier to just have the session dummy clip looping, and retriggering the arrange locator on each loop. Like forge said

oh, i've been out for a while, and just discovered this maybe-lifechanging post from mrs akitumi! thanks for this reply!

sound like a good solution. i didnt try this yet, but with my next piece of spare time, i'll check that out. seems to be a good workaround.

you could also use midi clips looped back as midi-remote (via IAC or midiyoke).

Assign your locators to a midi note each.

In session view make some midiclips, each containing one of these notes.

Now when you fire such a clip the playback will jump to the respective locator in arrangement.

For looping you could make those clips looping with the desired length.

Or you put the note into arrangement at the end of the desired loop. When the playhead hits the note live will trigger itself back to the locator.
