I want to sync midi clocks between two computers using Live

Post by mikadams » Thu Nov 08, 2007 12:23 am

I would really like to have my computers synced or connect to my buddy's machine also running live, so we could jam. I am kind of naive about how this works. I am not wanting to slave one version of Live to the other, but I know that one machine has to be the midi master and one the slave(?) My concerns are that neither machine has its own midi ins and outs. (my triggers are all USB). Do I need to have outboard midi interfaces for both machines? All the info I have found online offers very little understandable info. I have heard that I need to have a LAN connection between the two machines and somehow have the midi linked as well.. but I am totally naive has to how to get it going. Help please! thanks in advance to any who will take the time:)

midi is the dead simple way to do this, I've done it between different versions of Live, Macs and PCs, no problem.

there's a link to a thread here

you should be familiar with that page regardless.

is this Mac or PC? I think Mac users use a thing called 'airport', dunno, I'm a man, I use a PC.

so.. uh, I guess you are saying that I probably DO need outboard midi ins and outs? Thanks for the link page, some nice stuff there, but I didnt see my issue addressed. Thanks for answering just the same. Anyone else, assume that I am stupid. I really need specifics here, at least as to what I need and where in the settings to make things shake hands. thanks again for any and all help.

there is midi over LAN for pcs. there is midi over network for MACs (doesn't even need any cable, works over airport). There might be midi ins and outs on your triggers/controllers.
Read the manual about how to set it up in LIVE.
