kawai q-80, tr-707 n' mc-202 (syncing issue)
k so I already own a kawai q-80 and a mc-202. of course I can't sync them currently unless I use my ableton tape sync trickery but I'm starting to do hardware work that I would like to keep seperate from the computer altogether.
anyway, I'm thinking of getting a tr-707 for it's din sync abilities but I'm wondering how I should link these machines together to get them to do what I want...
the thing is would I master with the kawai q80 out to the 707 then to the 202? but then how do I get the kawai to send midi to my synths if it's busy sending sync to the 707.......?
maybe a splitter would be necessary? or could I master with the 707 to the 202 and then end with the q80 which goes to my synths? not sure if the q80 will even recieve din sync actually. bleh. I know it doesn't send it.

I'm really not sure
perhaps Cosmosuave (or how ever you spell it) will chime in on this for you.
But here's a manual for the 707, it can be hard to find.

the 707 sends DIN and MIDI at the same time
so you can sync your 202 to your 707 and live to your 707
i have a beat up 707.. the sequencer is shot..
but it's clock is still solid, i use it to sync my tb303 to live all the time

k well for this particular project I won't be using live at all, I can already send tape sync out of live to sync the 202 but I'm trying to put together a hardware project.mike holiday wrote:the 707 sends DIN and MIDI at the same time

before I buy the 707 I'm trying to understand the midi in out thru situation in order to get the 707 and the 202 and the q-80 synced up and being able to send midi out of the q-80 to my other gear.
so the dilema, master with the 707 then to the 202 and out of the 202's thru to the q-80? would that even work?
or maybe master with the q-80 to the 707 and then out of the 707 to the 202 and thru the 707 at the same time to external synths (q-80 going through the 707 to external gear)
I'm sure I'm close but I just wanna be sure I've got the plan right before I make any purchases.

i dont know about the q80.. is it midi?
the thing is if you slave the 707 you cant sync both DIN/MIDI
so 707 needs to be the master clock.
so if that is what you are looking for (syncing midi and din) then the 707 will do what you need
i can't slave my 707 to my 909 and sync my 303
but i can slave my 909(midi) to my 707 and my 303(din) to my 707(master)

the q-80 is a midi sequencer that doesn't seem to have din ability, so I need to be able to send midi sequence data out of the q-80. so I'm thinking maybe 707 (master) out to q-80 midi thru to the 202 and q-80 out to the synths. kinda like a Y set up starting with the 707?mike holiday wrote:i dont know about the q80.. is it midi?

from what it looks like it looks like that link is for a din splitter not converter. meaning you still need a din master I think....mike holiday wrote:yuppers

I've seen other ones that converted midi to din with multi outs but I find out hard to pay 75 bucks (what they wanted for it) for something that doesn't make sound

looks like 150 is common on ebay these days. Ive heard of people using the multi audio outs to trigger gear that has peak triggering ability which I'm keen on but I currently don't own gear what said ability.mike holiday wrote:the 707 will do it if you get it for less then 75$ go for it
i thought they went for 100 or so..
