Ableton Live 4
I tried to buy Ableton Live 4 online, but apparently it won't let me upgrade from Live Delta.

Well I think Live3 eats Acid3 for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and has its cake too! So based on that I would assume live4 is better than acid4. A lot of people say Fruityloops is better than Acid4 and Live4 looks like it is better than fruityloops. Ever since I bought Live3 I've felt like Acid is wearing off quick, and the new programs (Live) are raising the bar thus rendering Acid obslolete. Out with the old in with the new. The only thing that is keeping my intetest in Acid is the ease of use and the inclusion of the lite version of soundforge, which still kicks ass. I'm upgrading to live4 within the next two weeks then its good bye stand alone reaktor and absynth, then its hello dark, grimy, and EVIL

they are different kettle of fish really... Acid is a good program for beginners I reckon. I teach music technology to Primary and High school students, and we use Acid 4 (when on PC's). It's a good program to get to know about structuring/arranging tracks.
Personally though, Live 4 is in a different ballpark, it encourages you to really manipulate audio and midi... and once you've got those loops together, play it live.... arranging in a more organic way.
To me, Live 4 has a greater scope of possibilties than Acid, but if you gotta start off learning about arranging music, then Acid is a pretty good option.
