How does one go about creating some atmosphere in a track?

You can always try setting up some send busses with stacked reverb & delay feeding each other and pop some percussion through it.

Also check in with EvilEvil for some thought on the creative use of an arpegitor.

yeah really nice ideas guys... i am still a real novice at making music so maybe my crap ideas will help you up a rung on the ladder towards the better ideas that come before mine.

i sometimes use samples. you can download them off sites/torrents/newsgroups (big folders or loads).

you have the typical ones, like rain, wind, lightening, but also nice weird ones.

pads on synths are cool, dreamy airy sounds. with reverb on to drag it out.

you can add more atmosphere as well by just using more instruments. ya know. maybe two different pianos/strings etc...


i know it's basic but i hope it wasn't a waste of time reading it.
