once again either i'm a total idiot, there is a serious bug in L4b12 on my sys, or my sys is outta wack beyond detection. i spent all day yesterday and several hours this morning trying to see if i find the magic 10-step secret keypress solution for success. but no.........<teardrop, sniff>
System:
G4 1Ghz, 1 G RAM (230 to L4), ASIO Soundmanager. OS 9.2.2.
very light disk fragmentation. Sensibly reduced set of extensions (no printer, mp3 device, fax, speech etc.) checked w/ techtools AND norton disk doc.
VSTi: Tassman 3.1, Absynth 2.04
Prob:
90% of the time when i record onto an audio channel(session) or track (arrangement) w/ input from midi channel or external mic input, L4b12 freezes up my pooter, can't Force-Quit - and must do a Power Restart.
Process:
In Session view -
1. check that there is a destination folder set up in prefs. Loop button off.
2. record data on MIDI channel (absynth 2.04 or tass 3.1)
3. select input arm AUDIO channel for record,
4. press I> button in slot
5. ableton seems to record, showing the waveform in screen's bottom
6. press stop on recording channel.
7. ableton recording and play buttons remain on and midi channel continues playing
8. big freeze, must power restart. force quit does displays proper message but does not show buttons to cancel or continue.
After re-boot start w/ new song, MIDI data rec works ok. Can record audio ONE TIME. THEN the second time (after initial record completed) i try to record audio data L4 freezes.
Have alternately tried:
A. Using global transport/record to begin and attempt to end recording.
B. Routing MIDI chan out to audio chan AND under aud chan selecting MIDI chan at the same time.
C. setting destination folder to external HD
D. trashing L4b12 and re-installing.
i have also had serious problems when RENDERING anything to disk. L4b12 freezes every time. so maybe my earlier Consolidate prob wasn't so duh.
i have my sys tuned up fairly well and have no problems with other apps - reason, cubase 5.2pb +vsti, metasynth, peak 2.6 etc. used diagnostics to check out me HD and ... nothing wrong.
i desperately want to believe in and buy L4, but can not until this prob is resolved, whether it's something in my computer or a bug in L4.
arghhh and PLEASE HELP!!!!
