Cheers for the link and your tutorial, that player's a very handy little freebie! All the better for bringing sf2s into live, as you say :):)

Thanks for the links. But 15$ is hardly free.
Reason is still usefull for playing these files....
It would be nice if Live just read them so i could save them self-contained.

DLSMusicDevice

Post by Arrowhead » Mon Jul 26, 2004 10:40 pm

Mac OS X comes with a builtin soundfont player, the DLSMusicDevice. You can find it under the Audio Units/Apple directory if you've configured Live to use Audio Units.

However, I haven't been able to either change preset or change soundfont, although both work when doing the same thing in GarageBand.

Changing sounds only works by sending Program Change events and Live doesn't seem to forward those.

Choosing another soundfont works by putting a .sf2 or .dls file in Library/Audio/Sounds/Banks. The device's plug-in panel then lets you choose the font, but the selection snaps back to the built-in quicktime sounds.

Ableton? It shouldn't be hard and it gives Mac users an extra free synth.

Until then, you at least get a piano. :?

If by 'open' you mean 'edit' there's no shame in looking it up. Meanwhile if you have a Creative soundcard then Vienna is the industry standard. Many sythns/samplers like VSampler also does the trick.
