So was LIVE 7 worth the upgrade from 6?
I'm thinking of upgrading.
Does the side chaining sound good? (cos I don't like the sound of the native ableton compressor). I'm wondering if the side chaining is as transparent as the Logic compressors sidechaining abilities/sound.
Have they really improved the midi timinig?
Can you hear a difference in the all new 64 bit summing master bus? Is there better headroom as when you rip CD tracks into the arrangement in Live 6 the master bus peaks into the red (yes even with NO warping).
Cheers Live 7 users.

Live 7 is not out yet. The only users are beta testing. I doubt anyone is relying on the current betas for real production use. (100+% CPU usage anyone?).
Most reports on the new features make it seem very worth the upgrade to me when it comes out.

I`m using the beta version of 7 100% for all my music and production. I am completely happy with it and will definitely be coughing up cash as soon as it`s out.
The sound quality alone is worth the asking price as far as i`m concerned.
Hell, i even used the beta for a gig last week just because i wanted to hear 7 out on a big system. It ran perfectly smoothly. I`d obviously tested it before hand and there are some things you just should not use, NI`s Massive for example (under osx 10.5).

Just got the beta yesterday, and I must say, I don't know if it's placebo or what, but I did open up some old tunes and things sounded real good to me. And there are so many little extras that I can tell will make music production faster and easier.
So ya, I was a bit skeptical but I'll be shelling out as soon as it's ready. In the mean time, I think I'll be using the beta non-stop.
I'm also really liking tension and electric (analog is ok, but pretty much useless to me, that said I did get some fairly gnarly sounds out of it last night...).

Lucky. On one of my machines even just putting one simpler in with a default sound after 10 minutes spikes my CPU over 300% and locks up. Many have reported similar spikes.

It is going to be a necessary upgrade from L6 for me.
Hits>>
Sound quality - Sonically, there is a big improvement over L6 for reasons that will probably be spelled out in the upcoming whitepaper. L6 actually sounds good but L7 is on another level. I posted a clip for comparison in another thread: http://www.virb.com/live7vslive6
'Compressor' and 'EQ8' continue to improve and they were really good in L6. Hi-Quality modes and sidechain are excellent, appreciated and implemented in a very 'Ableton' way.
Arrangement view track resize is much better. Will save me hours a week.
Drum Rack - Looks to be a winner. It's simple but DEEP (in much the same way as 'racks') so more time is needed to really assess its workflow and potential.
Analog - Great meat and potatoes sounds. Will get a lot of use. I won't be kicking Sylenth1 out of bed anytime soon but it covers a lot of ground.
Misses>>
The multiple automation lanes need a rethink in implementation. Useable but goofy - definitely missing that very kickass 'Ableton' interface.
I still hate the clip colors that are available. Seems trivial but I'm a visual person who's easily annoyed/distracted by such things.
Cheers.

slicer, drum rack, tempo changes, multiple automation lanes, AAS integration (bittersweet upgrade), side chain FX, worth it. plus improved 64 bit summing and hi quality mode on native plug ins.
not a HUGE update but worth ~$120 or whatever it is.
anxious to see what puremagnetik, Cov Ops and trackteam come up with.
still waiting for OSC.

For me, one of the big things is the REX support. I think the handling of rex files is just right, they just work as they are, and if you need to tweak, then make a drum rack out of it, and it's all of a sudden veeeeeery tweakable.
Sidenote: Doesn't simpler offer the possibility to reverse a sample??? Would be great if it did...
Safe solo. MAN THAT'S GOOOOOOD!!! (well, necessary actually to be able to work with groups properly, and should have been there way earlier, but goooood anyway... =) )
All in all, feels like it's going to be a good update.

I don't think that Ableton will be able to release Live 7 this year- (1)too many bugs. -and- (2)the surprise deep price drop of Logic combined with the decline of the dollar's value has left them scrambling as to what to do.
