Persistence is the key - both in quitting smoking and spamming forums.

I don't see any links in his post... still I guess he could be a bot but usually if I don't see a link I assume it's a person.

Try reading this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Eas ... 0140277633

Quite a short book and exteremly effective.
You'll go from X a day to 0 a day pretty quick. rather than scaring you about your health, he explains the psycology behind why we smoke. Quite a good read, i'm sure there's some NLP going in it.

Same here, except all signs point to "bot":

- Randomly generated looking nick
- 1st post on forum, and of course, not about live or anything closely related
- Profile has only "Occupation: Retail", and "Interests: Alumni connections"
- No followup posts in thread

The only strange thing is that there's no link or any other spam... seems that the only link back is via his ICQ number. Still, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop :)

no one uses icq anymore. thats the first indication of a bot.

The Allan Carr book provided you follow all his instructions to the letter.

It got me off (I use to smoke over 2 packs of Marlboro red a day!) and I lost track of how many copies I have given to people as a present afterwards. Some people read it half - and fail. If you open your mind to his message and follow all the instructions... I don't see why you shouldn't get off.

Have fun! :D

I did notice all of that other than the occupation which I didn't check. but with no links I just assumed that it wasn't a bot. maybe it was a bot that was supposed to post a link but it got side tracked? :)

you're probably right though, but I just don't see how a bot with no link could possibly be effective and therefor leaves a doubt that it's a bot at all.

it might take a couple tries, but usually 3rd time is a charm. i started quitting about 2 years ago. first time was for a couple months, then again for a few months. now i have been smoke free for over 6 months with no intentions of starting again.

the secret: Australian tea tree sticks. i found that the oral fixation was 99% of it for me. when i am working on music or art i would smoke. i replaced that with chewing on tea tree sticks (+ i wanted to stop, so i reminded myself that no ciggie was stronger than my own mind) and i stopped. do i still chew the sticks? yes, occasionally i do. but it works. *note that i did smoke for over 14 years before quitting.

so my advice, avoid gums and patches. that is just replacing one addiction with the other.

really want to quit. if you still enjoy it, it might be difficult.

get some sticks. the kind made by "Thursday Plantation' are best

try to stop drinking for a while. this usually makes you want to smoke. so give it up. once i actually quit smoking i did not drink any more either,, ever since

try some exercise. go on a run and then tell me how bad you want a smoke.

good luck

d~

Interesting...a friend just went to the website in my sig, and his anti-virus went off, which it hadn't done during previous visits just a week ago. This was the first time I've ever posted to a bot thread, and now our site might have a virus...coincidence?

edit: yep, just went there and my anti-virus went off too...some fucker installed a trojan downloader on our site! I wonder if this spam-bot has anything to do w/ it?

Ok, I fixed it by going in to each file for the site from the backend, and noticing which one tipped off the anti-virus...turned out to be the index.html and default.html files, naturally. So I looked at the code and there was very suspicious looking code appended to the end of the file, a jave script with a big long string of "'%3C%69%66%72%61%6D%65%20" stuff. I backed up the file, deleted that code, and re-checked the site with anti-virus and it passed. Nice!!
