Render directly to mp3

Post by trees » Wed Apr 18, 2007 12:06 pm

Here’s the scenario...

I’m running the latest version of Live in OSX. My band meets weekly, we record our sessions using Live. At the end of each session I like to upload our new material to each bandmates ipod so they can reflect on the music and mentally prepare for future sessions. It’s a real boost in songwriting productivity. Aiff and WAV files are great and they are playable on an ipod but their size is excessive for our purpose and they can fill an ipod nano or shuffle in no time. The process of rendering to aiff, opening the file in another app, converting to mp3 and adding tags is quite tedious. Here’s what I would love to see in Live...

A “Render to Disk” mp3 option with an integrated tag editor included in the render dialogue/options window.

This option would also work well for many other scenarios. Eg. Artist who would like to get new work on myspace, their website, share with their friends, etc.

What do you think about that?

perfect idea.
yeah, i hate having to keep an mp3 converter handy, it adds another step in the whole process. besides, guitar pro can do it so why not Live?

There's no need for that. Take 2 minutes in audacity.

But if you want to render a work in progress very quickly? MP3 support is needed.

Why, it is quick already!? What is the difference between work in progress and a finished project? Select your master track, render, and then go in audacity, and export to mp3. I think your adding like 2 minutes to the process, really. You can go to the washroom, or get a glass of water while it's rendering mp3...

There are tones of free apps that do it, I don't understand what's so hard about rendering mp3 in an other app.

Anyhow, I said what I had to say, I'll leave it to the users to vote!

It should have this feature in it already. I asked for it some time ago and what did we get? The ability to use mp3's in clips. Big f-n deal (to me at least it isn't). If my work is done and I'm happy with it and I want to render to mp3 I shouldn't have to do it in yet another application? What did they do in the meantime? Add in Video support...something I also do not need and don't forsee the need for it unless I want to start adding a video clip to my releases, again HIGHLY unlikely. It should have been in there back in version 4 at the latest. I would like that in it along with the tag editor. There should be no need to do this external of a DAW program, none at all.

this again...
you can spend a whole lot of time on a track and you can't spare two extra minutes to convert to mp3 in another program... a bit silly, i'd say...
the ability to use mp3's in projects is more aimed at dj's using other peoples songs and clips and syncing them together in their sets. also, the video thing is useful for instance for vj-ing. live is a live performance tool first and foremost, isn't it?

i mean, is everyone always trying to export their tracks when they're about to miss their bus?
Yup...
