I thought so too...I was going to suggest adding in some pedal sounds, and maybe a strategically placed cough or two, and a little page rustling to seal the deal.

I might be missing what you are referring to here but the length in time of any selection, 'Duration', is displayed in the 'Status Bar' of the arrangement view when your mouse is in the 'Track Display' area. It won't display if you are hovering directly over a clip - it will give you that clips specific info instead. Personally, I wish it was more prominent and at the top instead of bottom - time is important.

The notepad was one of the only things I truly missed about FL. Formerly, I had to use the LessonsEN.txt hack. To have it integrated within the set on a per clip basis is excellent. I'm going to use it to record amplifier settings, chord progressions, lyrics. The paperless studio. Bitchin'.
