Looping issues in Live 4 - Hard Disk Overload

Post by 1111 » Tue Jul 27, 2004 4:28 pm

I have six mono tracks that are 6 minutes long (each) in a Live 4 file. When I set loop points in these tracks (8 bars, 2 bars, 1/2 bar + many more combinations) - the sound 'jumps' and gives me the red Hard Disk overload notification in the upper right. CPU load is 12 - 13 percent - I even loaded a ton of effects and changed drivers etc to see if that hindered or helped. I also made a new live 4 file with 2 of the tracks - same problem.

First I tried this on

* a Dell Inspiron 8000 Laptop / PIII900 / 512megs / Echo Indigo / XP Pro ... I reformatted NTFS recently - so everything is clean. I even upped the cluster sizes on the drive to see if it helped. After all that work with no luck ... I figured it was a laptop issue ... so -

* I tried it on my main audio computer: P4 2.8 / Intel Mobo / 1 gig dual ram / SATA / Motu 896. Drives are formatted FAT32. Saw the same problem with this setup.

* I then jumped over to my desktop with: p4 2.8 / Gigabyte mobo / SATA and IDE HDDs / 2 gigs dual ram / SBlive .. similar specs to the audio computer .... same problem.

I decided to try the beta version to see if that changed anything - it showed the same problems. I re-installed live 3 to test my sanity and found that looping small/large/medium was great with long tracks (which it used to be and shouldn't have changed).

Anyhow ... anyone else have this problem on their PC systems with Live 4? Should I not be using long (as in 5 - 6 minute tracks) when looping??

Cheers -

Further update ...

The above looping issue happens with the demo songs included with live ... By looping I mean - in the arrangement view - setting a loop-in and out point and letting it loop while the song plays. Turn off the loop or slide to a new location = the same results.

Anyone else experiencing this as well?
