I wonder how it compares to Logic's new ones, which are supposed to be really good.

The new compressor actually is really good and very useable. I might not be giving up my expensive PSP and Sonalksis (or Voxengo Marquis and Soniformer) just yet, but as it integrates so well, I can see myself using it a lot, depending on the project.

I've already made 2 or 3 tracks using it though and was impressed with the results. Haven't used the side chain much (not something I use too much of) but it is effective too. Haven't heard Logic's new compressors but it is at least as useable as the one in Logic 7 IMHO (not a big Logic user, have used it at work a few times where we have Macs but I run PCs at home. It's definately better than the Cubase SX3 vst dynamics/compressor - although that's not saying too much :)

When I used Logic Platinum 4.8 I used to hate the compressors on there. It was so hard to set up a decent sound that I often gave up and routed via hardware or preamps.

Now I have a decent PC and Live 6 I do find I use the compression on there quite a bit. If Live 7 improves the sound as well as the functionality then It'll be another reason for me to upgrade. :D

There seems to be general agreement that the old Platinum compressor sucks. But the new models are supposed to be way better. I'm considering buying Logic 8 if I ever find the cash, and having a nice compressor might tip the scales.

I particularly like the fact (to my ears) that the new comp seems much more powerful but is still so transparent.
If I want grit and pump I'll still use my PSP VW, or the Ozonic, but sometimes you just wanna get a better hold on a level without colouring the sound, you know?

(BTW, I'm not an Oxford english speaker, but I thought I'd give a shout to my friends across the pond.)

The new compressor sounds really good to me, this is a major sonic improvement reagrding the 2 others bundled with version 6.

Just to know, Am I the only one who can't route one of impulse individual outputs to the sidechain in ?

To route an individual out of impulse to a sidechain, you have to route it to an audiotrack first and then route this audiotrack to the sidechain.

That's the way, I'd do it... maybe there is an easier workaround, that I don't know.
