plus I heard a horrifying report on the radio about freedom of information - we are one of the worst countries in the world for it - behind countries like ghana and jamaica - the govt arent accountable at all here

sure, if you are talking about ONLY money and financial things then this govt has probably done ok - but I think the point of a govt is a bit more than that - they need to have some kind of conscience

there arent many areas where they are differnt to the Bush admin

ill chek that link out later as im leaving a small noise footprint (mrs sleepin)

but im getting the feeling that if i was in america id be a republican. not a neocon one though, id likely support ron paul because im into small governments without too many departments and fiscal responsibility... but the funny thing is the democrats act like the old republicans and the neocons are acting faschist.

In principle I can understand that, but I think it's all bullshit because while they say they are for less govt, they are often the most opressive - keen for ruining everyone elses personal rights etc - if you fit into the "white, middle class, 18-65" bracket you're ok, but everyone else has to battle - remember these dudes actually glorify the Australian "heyday" when there was a "white Australia" policy

I'm really not saying Rudd is much better, but I absolutely, unequivocably do not want Peter Costello to be PM and he will be if they get back in

in fact the whole cabinet's a bunch of clowns - tony Abbott? Alexander Downer?????Joe Hockey?????? Amanda Vanstone?????? bunch of bastards

I agree with Howard's policies on immigration. If it means preventing fundamentalists entering the country who want to ban Christmas because they feel it does not respect or represent their religion then give me Howard any time.

maybe he did maybe he didnt

i mean, cmon under howards rule we stamped out paulene hanson and they did ensure the riots didnt turn into anything that would seriously scar the nation

beyond that, i know so may immigrants from all walks of life who were not able to come to australia before so the surge of people from ghana, iraq, afghanistan and jordan doesn't reflect the bigotry u speak of.

i feel more included in australian society than i did before howard's era that's for sure.

and you put that down to the Howard government?

oh well, he'll probably get back in anyway - like I said,I'm not sure Kevo'Sev would be any better

I really dont want COstello as PM though - he's a smarmy, smug bastard

it would be nice to have not had the Tertiary education system raped while I have to be in it though - it's now among the lowest public funded in the world

thing is, it's the freedom of information that we DONT have here that stops a lot of this being known

look up freedom of information before you vote - but in reality the best thing to do about things like that is make sure there is more balance in the senate

Never expected the oz election fever to spill over to Ableton.com!

and never knew there were so many Oz Livecats!

I for one am sick of the meanness of spirit that characterises the Coalition govt. Ive become ashamed of my country more times in the last 5 years than ever before. Our behaviour as a world citizen is appalling. We ignored the rule of Law by following the US into Iraq, our many anti non white policies. (lets call it what it is), and banking on the non renewable mining industry to keep us prosperous, the raping of Higher Education, it just goes on and on.

sweetjesus: most of the major economic changes that we are now benefitting from, were all done by the Keating/Hawke labour governments. Deregulating banking, linking wage rises to productivity. Interest rates under Howard in the 80s were much higher than under Keating.

That said, the current Labour party is so far to the right, that a vote for either party is a vote for business, just like the US. The mining industry has publicly stated that they have no problem with the Labour party winning.

Vote hard and Vote often Ozzies!

I just came back from voting. I've moved house about twice in two years so didn't know what division I was in so was forced to do an absent vote, forgot who was who aswell (I was going to vote for Rudd but actually forgot what party he was on!). I wish I understood it more but at the same time, don't give a fuck.
