What r u saying Josh? PVD is djing with Ableton LIVE now? Sorry I'm not up on my dj's anymore... lost the respect for most of them.JoshR wrote:Mm. I'm afraid it might be like that. I've heard not so good reviews on PVD. Mostly I want to see his set up and how it's done. I've seen very few live DJ's.
I'll let you know how it goes...
I saw him play years ago in LA... nothing special and his setup consisted of 4 tables and a dj mixer... only saw him use 2 decks tho.
But I will say at least PVD makes his own tracks so I respect that... IMO DJ's that only play others peoples music have no right to be up on stage pumping there fists pretending like they did. Makes me ILL actually.
Reminds me of a joke...anti-banausic wrote:What I was thinking. I like some DJs, but they are treated like rock-stars, which plainly they are not. They are spinning other peoples' music for a party. Keep in mind, that clubs are just bigger bars, with bigger parties.hambone1 wrote:DJs signing autographs?
What kind of sheep/lemmings are people becoming?
DJ1: "Hey, wanna catch a movie tonight?"
DJ2: "Dunno, man. Who's the projectionist?"
Honestly, when people seek out DJs for autographs, I wonder just how sad their lives have become, and how desperate they are to follow anything/anyone.
Sign o' the times, I reckon...
Saw Josh Wink DJ years ago around the time of "Higher State" which he milked for a full 10 minutes, 2 copies, pulling back every time it was gonna hit the breakdown.hambone1 wrote:DJs signing autographs?

He rocked, holding records up in the air, pumping his fists, etc.
At the end of the show he came to chat with the fans and I got his autograph.
I'm neither a sheep nor a lemming, was a fun night and cool to chat with him and get him to sign.
Don't worry hambone, I'll never ask you for yours.

Yeah see "I" think that is different. Josh Wink dj's but I don't consider him a "dj" really. He makes his own music, he's a pioneer in the industry, he has the right to be on stage pumping his fists cause he earned it. There are some people behind the decks I feel have the right to be there... and I still respect those very much. Its kinda like DJ2: Saying "who's the projectionist" and DJ1: Replying "Steven Spielberg"dazzer wrote: Saw Josh Wink DJ years ago around the time of "Higher State" which he milked for a full 10 minutes, 2 copies, pulling back every time it was gonna hit the breakdown.

Its mostly the ALLLLL the other bandwagon bandits who think they deserve some special treatment walking around the club with there headphones around there neck. Those are the maggots I want to fry like little aunts with a great big magnifying glass.
@hambone... thanks for sharing that joke... good stuff!
I think it's great that DJs with talent and originality are now producing and performing their own music. And I reckon Live has a lot to do with that.
It's a shame for them that they get lumped in the same pot as those DJs who simply cheerlead and play other folks' tunes.
IMO, the really sad thing is that most people ARE lemmings. They can't think for themselves, but follow the crowds instead.

I saw PVD on Thursday for the 3rd time, and he was much more involved with the audience than I'd seen the previous few times. He smiled, he cheesed for pictures when people got up to take them, and he seemed pretty excited to be there. I honestly really dislike trance now, but the guy was incredible.
He played a lot harder, techy stuff and layed off the floaty shit for 90% of his set. He actually did that the first time I saw him too. Sounded nothing like the stuff he produces on his albums. Anyway, I think he's earned his spot on the top of the DJ heap from what I saw. It was a pretty incredible show. And I've seen a LOT of the "top DJ's" live.
