OT:Novations ridiculous marketing
Remember how everybody laughed about the "huge" displays from SL propaganda?
They fine, readable, up to the job but calling them huge was just stupid.
Just got the newsletter from them the very same "huge" display became"Giant" now !

What`s next?
Mick G. if you reading this, please, tell those responsible to fire the marketing idiot who comes with such ideas and spend the money of developing drivers.
Musicians and Djs are not intellectually challenged, and if the marketing chap thinks that his girlfriend believes his "huge" / "giant" myth, she is probably faking her giant climax anyway.

I was being rhetorical. Obviously nobody is getting off on retarded limits within their (now) super expensive audio production suite, based on controllers made for people who can blissfully co-exist with 64 pre-programmed parameters.icedsushi wrote:The way you worded it sounded funny, but no not really.
Being cock blocked is the opposite of getting off. You know what it means don't you?
I bought it as soon as they were available and gave up after few months of not getting updates that would fix midi traffic jam problems.
Other factors- the faders, I though size wont matter in this case but it did, simply too short and unprecise specially on stage
and the pads hurting my fingers all the time- way to close to sharp edged knobs.
SL specially 25 is "huge" in wrong places for 2 octaves not enough for me for music could be OK for DJing, but it is monstrous for no reason. I opened it and it is empty, was considering throwing in audio interface and synth module- there is enough room for few. The dj vj reality is every square inch counts in most of situations.
I think SL ist the best Live controller not that it is so revolutionary but simply that there are no any better, except Robert Henke`s. I bought some parts from Doepfer but couldnt find anyone to make chassis and the rest so it all collect dust.

The new total kontrol package for the pad kontrol seems to offer more control over lives environment than the SL,i've only demoed it briefly. There's an awful lot packed into that controller anyway. You can even load sets with itrikhyray wrote:I bought it as soon as they were available and gave up after few months of not getting updates that would fix midi traffic jam problems.

It's not cheap at $50 but the combined price with a padkontrol is less than the remote zero and maybe nore appealing to a live musician as like you say, space is a premium

i have mixed feeling about the sl.
i bought an sl zero, and i like it ok.
but really the automapping for devices is pretty much bullshit.
the whole left side of the thing doesn't really do what they say it should.
i ended up just mapping the pads and knobs on the left and don't even fuck with the encoders. The only real benifit the thing has is the automapping of the faders to tracks. I do like that, not having to look at the screen when i mix. But i would really rather have some knobs over the faders for pan and sends rather than the horseshit on the left side. Well, unless it worked how it was supposed to.

I've been thinking about buying a Remote Zero SL because it is the only controller I can find [apart from the Mackie C4] with an LCD strip which tells you what each fader/knob/button is currently assigned to - pretty essential I think if it is going to function effectively as an onstage controller.leisuremuffin wrote: but really the automapping for devices is pretty much bullshit.
Can you explain to me what is up with the automap feature and is it overrideable?
I have a Behringer BCR2000 and I love it but it is unusable on stage because my addled old brain can't remember what I've assigned its 100 or so controllers to.
The LCD srip on the Novation presumably updates to tell you which parameter each knob/fader/button is assigned to for each project you load doesn't it?
I'd have to agree, getting automap to work really well seems to not be automatic at all, a lot of the SL controls are sitting there unused. In the end I too just made my own user template to avoid the headaches, and on that front the SL37 I have is very nice. Still wish it was less plastic and more solid feeling though....

I wont do same mistake , buying too soon, wait for some report from Compact users. It is missing couple of things that are horrible or useless on the SL- the too short faders, too small and wrongly placed pads, terrible toystick and the whole left side that never really worked in predictable way. I wish there was 37 version, in my opinion the best size for stage.
Those who never use SL might wonder what is a big deal about display ,once you use it you will know it is all about display. I loved my original Nordlead but those bloody digits, ....G2 or NL 3 or no Clavia for me.
I would probably be OK without any non auto controller, just with display I could name manually whatever I might need.
How is Bitstream this way?

yeah, well, unfortunatly the template editor doesn't work for shit on a mac.
i should probably update the firmware on mine, i've heard there's been some improvement.
however, my experience has been this:
the encoders on the left side do as they are supposed to, but don't really feel that great and you can't do a quick and smooth filter sweep for a simple example. The buttons below are supposed to increase/decrease by the smallest increment. That doesn't work at all. The knobs at the bottom are supposed to do the same thing as the encoders up top, but are smooth and not endless, this would be great, but they don't follow the automap at all either. All of that stuff may be fixed by now, but since i've devolped my own way of working with the thing that ignores the automap on the left side i haven't bothered.
i should just sell the fucking thing.
