Render Hell

Post by monk1 » Fri Jul 30, 2004 8:41 pm

Hi,
I'm using Live 4 on a G4 iBook, OS 10.3.4, 640 MB RAM and I have a problem rendering individual Tracks.

I select the entire arrange length of my material (approx 3 minute song)

I solo a track

I render to disc as a 24Bit Wav at 44.1

Sometimes it works, sometimes it hangs at various progress percentages, forcing me to force quit, start Live again and start the render all over

I need to render every track for the mix in Protools (we can't rewire because the engineer is using PT5).

The M-Audio tech said its a known issue, but I need to do this often and have talked several partners into buying Live.

What is the issue and when will it be fixed?

help?

hi there,

dunno if this helps - but i was having freeze probs w/ L4b12 and L4.0.1 demo when recording and rendering in OS9, UNTIL i trimmed down my extensions including the ethernet ones.

don't know if this is possible in OS X. there may be some background app that is checking all your ports and interfering with your render process.

just a thought from an OS9er.

Yes and No

It probably is a background thing, but OSX is a totally different beast from OS9. Unfortunately, I can't turn off extensions or anything like that.

I spoke to M-Audio Live supprt and they said Ableton acknowledges that this is a problem they've seen, even in older versions. They thought they had addressed it, but they now know it needs some work.

The real issue is that this applications would be perfect if it had a batch method of outputting high quality audio files for each track all in one shot, instead of just manually going track by track. Some sort of "Export all tracks as individual continuous audio files" function.

Record labels want all projects turned in with these seperate audio files, so it'd be a nice pro feature.

Hi monk1,

please describe your setup as exactly as possible, in particular:

- the exact Live version you are using (shown in the about box)
- all the settings you use for rendering (Normalize, Create Analysis File, etc)
- the audio/midi hardware and settings you are using
- vst / au plugins (if any) you use in the hanging sets
- ReWire slaves (if any)

You may want to try the following:
Before rendering, switch to the built-in CoreAudio driver. Make sure the playback sample rate is set to the same value as you use for rendering.

It would be helpful if you could send me one of the 'hanging' sets. Please choose (or create) a set that produces the error often, but contains as few tracks, effects, and plugins as possible. Don't include the audio files, just send the Live document.

Regards
