you're right paddy.

I thought of that after I posted and felt a little guilty.

Tom, do you really need to make enemies?
It is a small world, and and even smaller music scene.

the smart thing to do would be to let it rest.
Then the implicated party owes you a favor.(make sure you let them know)
Perhaps some sweet gigs, or collaborations.

That would be the political thing to do.

Thanks for all the replies.

After cooling down and having a think about the situation, I will cut together a video promoting the artist and the party, as per the original request from the organiser. It will refrain from linking it to any of my opinions on what's going on.

I bite my tongue all the time (almost every gig that I play at that has other advertised live acts) but this particular event left me quite wound up due to a number of things, and has given me a lot to think about.

On the making enemies tip, I agree. There is a much more productive way of dealing with this than name calling. In fact, I've structured a workshop around the entire issue.

It will be for those who wish to move from the studio into a live setup using Ableton, or those who currently play live using prerenderd audio, and how to easily chop it up into an live set, using follow functions to keep the tunes original structure, allowing more room for experimenting/improvisation as confidence grows.

I will be present it for the first time in Melbourne on the 25th of January at Rainbow Serpent Festival. As usual, it will be filmed and made available to anyone for free.

If I'm not happy with the way things are, making enemies isn't going to make my life any easier.

I really appreciate you guys letting me know your feelings on this, sometimes it's necessary for me to get an outside opinion, as my judgment can get a bit warped at times.

This is EXACTLY what happened when I saw Blank & Jones in Dallas. I lost all respect for them and stopped listening to their music.

It's Milli Vanilli syndrome. You must present the evidence!!!

Edit: Good thinking, Tom, doesn't do any good to point fingers. Although I do think that people ought to know when they pay a lot of money to see a performance, that it's just a recording.

It would be great if you could present the video in a way that did not let the viewer know who the performers are, but still get the proof across that some major acts are faking it. Getting the proof out there is more important than singling out one group of guys, IMO.

Nice work, and kudos for showing restraint. :D

This is just pure stupid laziness. If you still want to fake it and look cool all you would have to do is have your prerecorded set on 1 track going out the main. Then have a bunch of other tracks and clips routed to audio channels that aren't even plugged in. If somebody still gets Magnum PI on your ass just say you are submixing.

I'll be giving a demo of this method at my next live show.

I don't see any vu levels showing up in the holograpic performance.
