I'm using a M-Audio Keystation 49e USB MIDI keyboard) in Live 6. Have been doing so for a while now. Also used this keyboard in Cubase SX 3 and 4.
What happens is this: I'm recording a melody played with Simpler, there's quite an amount of pitchbending involved too. After a few moments Live 6 is completely unresponding. It takes at least a few minutes to get control back in Live, that is, if the part i'm recoding doesn't loop. If it's a loop then i'm never getting control back and i have to end task.

Now i know this isn't -just- Live 6's problem alone, i'm seeing things happening with MIDI in Cubase too. When i move the Pitchbend or Modulation it shows spikes in CPU usage. So somehow intensive controller data, such as Pitchbend/Modulation, has effect on CPU performance. Probably the reason Live 6 locks up.
What can cause this lockup? Please share your ideas.

I've tried various drivers for this keyboard, including the latest, and also worked with it on two different PC's. While that doesn't exclude a possible problem on both PC's, it shows a fair chance the problem isn't limited to specific PC's. More people maybe have this problem.
(M-Audio doesn't have a forum sadly, so i can't discuss it there.)
WinXP SP2 running both DAW's. 2gb RAM, 500 gb SATA HD's, >2ghz CPU's. Vid: 6600GT and Ati 9800 pro.
Live 6. Recording MIDI + Ctrl data causes lockups. USB keys.
The amount of controller data isn't the point; it's just that Live loses contact with the Keystation. It's a Windows issue with power management to the hubs; it's on by default, and most USB peripherals don't like it.
Go into device manager and right click on a USB hub to bring up properties. Under the power management tab, uncheck any boxes that may be checked. Repeat for each hub and reboot.
Chances are that'll fix it.

ewistrand, i just tried what you suggested. Thanks for replying.
Turned the energy management off for my USB hubs, all of them were ticked. I also plugged the keyboard into a different USB connector, from a pci usb to mobo.
Then opened Live and recorded a melody with a lot of pitchbending, again Live became unresponsive.
Seems this bug is gonna beat us ewistrand!
Is there some setting in Live where i can setup like, threshold levels for midi controller data or similar?
I'll get a oldskool midi cable connected this week, maybe that will help. (Here's hoping the oldskool way doesn't give me midi timing errors).
