video sampling

Post by mattverzola » Tue Dec 04, 2007 3:02 am

BEING REPOSTED IN FEATURE WISHLIST..sorry =P
------------------
is anyone else feeling the need to do this? I'm chopping up audio over here and i get awesome video edits when i scrub my arrangement. i want my video to follow my midi editing! if i can scrub it i should be able to record it.

sampler for video, video clips in session view. a "video output" channel. i'd like a drum rack with video slots thank you very much. "slice video to new track." have volume be the opacity.

we can edit video in arrange view and save our ouput already. the cat's out of the bag. feed the cat.

when can we have this feature?

i fear not, cuz the abletonians think the other way round.
they want live to be attractive for people who write scores or similar stuff to allready existing video. the dont intent to give the music produca the ability to make a good video to the beat ha has done.
we have to change the minds of the abletonians about this cuz most of us wand it the other way round...

not sure if this'll do sampling as it's not out yet, but it certainly seems it'll fill the bill for most things people are asking for videowise in live...

if it's as good as it sounds it may even take a fair chunk of live's market! 8O

if you really want a video sampler (ie live video sampling) you're probably better off building your own in vvvv (pc), max/msp (pc/OSX), maybe VDMX (OSX) or possibly even quartz composer (OSX). i know it ain't that hard to build a simple one in vvvv and i've seen a few built in max/msp so it's certainly possible.

Did you use the demo version of JAM for that? I've been keeping an eye out for JAM for a while and tried to contact the developer a couple of times but not much seems to be happening on the site at the moment. He's taken the forum down and is not very good with communication. I don't think I'd trust sending any money through to them at the moment. Looking forward to Resolume 3 though, which I'm sure will be a much more professional release.

i'm amazed you got JAM working to be honest... i bought it, it didn't really work and then it was shelved, although Jay does say 'something' is in development.

Thanks for the comment.

I've had JAM working for a couple of months now but it not stable.
When I first purchased JAM I had many problems and the Developer was very slow in getting back to me with a solution. Last time he contacted me was in April.
I listed the problems with the program and he offered no solutions, WTF!

I guess he never heard of good customer service

I'll be posting a better video that shows more of the features that JAM has available. JAM would be cool if the user interface were easier to use.

Ableton should have a video feature where you can load clips in the session view.

Currently I'm using the Akai mpd32 to trigger the video clips in JAM. the faders and knobs control the video effects.

I use an app called iShowu for video (Mac Os)
I not sure it will work on PC. u still need some thing to edit the clip (Quicktime Pro)

Good luck.

Stay tuned!!!!!!!

And do you sample off DVDs? If so, do you have a tried and trusted DVD ripper? How good is the sound quality? I know that some people prefer to just use the video and then take the audio from a CD or Vinyl of the same tune.

i don't know of any rippers for movies. assuming you rip a DVD, the audio will be exact. just look on the internet i'm sure you'll find something.

Since JAM is dead I'm waiting on resolume 3. better start saving up now!
