This is a possibility but the effects signal from the pad won't enter back into the computer. This isn't a big deal if you're playing live, but if you wanted to save the effect into a clip in Live (which I often end up doing) you'd need to use SEND mode.4.33 wrote:why not just feed the master out to kp and from the kp to the mains?

speaking of...the firebox only has a "breakout midi in/out", which looks like one of the old serial ports (see pic here). can this be used just like a normal midi in/out with a certain cable/adapter? never seen those before....is there a big difference in terms of using those?SubFunk wrote:permutation wrote:SubFunk wrote:
but only chinch / phono type connex, still a very good alrounder card.
i am not shure if i understand your question correctly... but yes the firebox has the midi in/out on a breakoutcable which ships with the card and it contains standard DIN 5 pole midi connectors... there is no difference in usage, though...permutation wrote:SubFunk wrote:permutation wrote: speaking of...the firebox only has a "breakout midi in/out", which looks like one of the old serial ports (see pic here). can this be used just like a normal midi in/out with a certain cable/adapter? never seen those before....is there a big difference in terms of using those?
the firebox is for what you pay for a very fine, good sounding card with a nice flexible control panel [software]
question answered?

The Firepod is another option. It has 8 ins/8 outs which you may not need now but ins and outs aren't something you can just add later. It's also a full rack but you can just throw that in a 2 rack space case to tote around. I've also seen a lot less complaints about it than the Firebox. What complaints? The same complaints you hear about every interface hooked up to different computers. For me it came down to most options vs. cost vs. the least amount of public bitching. The Firepod seemed to fit the bill.

it's a bit big to carry around in your backpack tho, and i guess me personally, i won't use half of the functions, because i'm not into production, and don't work with instruments at all.beats me wrote:The Firepod is another option. the 3 outs of the firebox seem sufficient for now, and if i really need an additional one, i can always use the macbook soundcard as an aggregate and the headphone out for cueing.
beware, as your new card MIGHT not allow you to leave your internal card on.permutation wrote:it's a bit big to carry around in your backpack tho, and i guess me personally, i won't use half of the functions, because i'm not into production, and don't work with instruments at all.beats me wrote:The Firepod is another option. at least that's the case in Windows.

well, i got the Firebox since my local shop had it in stock.
after i plugged it in i thought i had some crackling noise, but it turned out to be the track i was playing (duh).
then i had some random dropouts, which i think had to do with the wireless connection being activated, because right now it seems to run quite smooth.
but damn, the headphone out is bloody hot. got it almost near zero and it's blowing my ears off
i have to play around with it a bit more, take a look at the latency and stuff. right now i have a global latency of 23ms in live, which seems a bit high....
thanks to everyone who commented in this thread. i have yet to get me a Kaoss Pad, so i will probably post some updates once i got it hooked up to my setup.
