MPD24 with Drum Racks
MPD24 with Drum Racks
So all this information is available in a number of other forums (fora?) but I thought I'd put it all together and post it separately.
Drum racks are supposed to assign whatever 4x4 grid is currently visible to the pads on your pad triggers regardless of the note numbers involved. It doesn't, natively, though it would like a Trigger Finger or a padKontrol, since those are supported natively.
Anyway here's how to fix it:
Make yourself a preset bank on the MPD that sends all pad hits on channel 10, with the following note numbers:
Pad 1 (bottom left): 48
2 52
3 54
4 58
5 49
6 51
7 68
8 56
9 60
10 59
11 57
12 55
13 61
14 69
15 65
16 63
Now you'll need to go into Live's MIDI preferences, arm Track and Remote on an MPD port. Now, in the box above that, for control surfaces, select padKontrol in the first dropdown box and your armed MPD port in the second.
Keep in mind the difference between toggle and momentary when you're programming the MPD too - toggle is good for loops but that pad won't follow the current display while it's switched on elsewhere in the rack.
Voila =) happy padding.

Excellent!
Thanks for the post mark! I enjoy my mpd24 alot and really wish they would natively support it. Do you know if they resolved the issues with the transport buttons....as of right now they are useless and I would love to have them for basic recording tasks.....Looking forward to upgrading to 7 after the semester is over.

I found out today that the Live preset that comes stored on the MPD handles this automatically
AFAIK the transport issue is that the MPD sends MIDI Machine Control (MMC) messages but it's a protocol that Live doesn't support. BlueInGreen linked to a Max/MSP patch here:
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... pd+mmc+max
that does the conversion so that the buttons work (except record) so if you don't mind having Max runtime open when you're playing it'll work
