Mammalux,
You know. I 'd like to see our test scores after using a firewire interface. Nightrider just scored 47% with a new santa rosa (2.6GHz) mbp using a motu ultralite.
I wish my fireface still worked. I'm going to try and get my hands on one soon and share the test results.

Macbook Pro (core2duo), iMac (santa rosa), OSX 10.5, X-Station, G-Drive, MPC 1000 (JJ OS 4.95).
Hmmm...I just tried it under Leopard and it still works the way it has since OSX 10.1 - just do a get info and paste the new icon over the existing one. Worked fine on iCal.Machinate wrote:my wife wanted to change the icon of iCal in Leopard... can't be done without a bunch of hacking, either.dango wrote:i don't get how there can be such a harmless and expensive 3rd party solution to this problem; i mean, why wouldn't apple just implement something like this into the computer?
Haven't noticed any performance issues on my MBP SR but then I usually use my desktop for music. Will do the test and post the numbers...

Is the "jumping" up & down an indicator that it might be? I'd think that the CPU would "land" on a lower frequenzy while not having a large load.pribeh_tom wrote:Try coolbook. It will answer all your questions. Just download the demo. Once you have it running it should show you whether or not your processor is steppin'.Lo-Fi Massahkah wrote:Does any of you know if the speed stepping sets in with the Mac Mini as well? I tried Coolbook last night and the CPU freq jumped between 2004 & 1002 mhz.
Didn't do the new performance test yet, though.

what does it mean if you have the CPU set at 5 and the frequency jumps between 800mhz and 2400mhz really really fast?

You should try throttling (high) or using only a single frequency setting (your highest).thumperjack wrote:what does it mean if you have the CPU set at 5 and the frequency jumps between 800mhz and 2400mhz really really fast?

Is there an alternative to coolbook? Sure enough, running it in demo mode gives me get a visual of why i get crackles and cpu jumps... and why my bootcamp performs 40% better
I don't really like his policy of only one re-activation as I love formatting and mucking with this thing.
I guess I could keep dishing out 10 bucks, but I'd also like something that didn't affect battery live negatively on my SR.

Hah. Can't believe people want to change the icon after all the hacking Apple had to do to get the correct date to show up in the dock when iCal wasn't loaded.majestic wrote:Hmmm...I just tried it under Leopard and it still works the way it has since OSX 10.1 - just do a get info and paste the new icon over the existing one. well i did the performance test without coolbook, and it read 63%-71%.
installed and payed for coolbook.
did the performance test and it reads a steady 46% after the initial jump to 53% on hitting play.
changed all the reverbs to high quality with 120% stereo and got a steady 53%.
Xbench went from 112 score (without coolbook) to 115.49 (with coolbook) with everything still running, 119.28 with all apps closed. i feel like my MBP just got a boob job.
