I am running Live 7 demo on a G4 (dual 1 gig) and it's runs fine, I get can get WAY more than just one track open. I can't wait to put it on my G5 next week when my copy comes from Sweetwater...
I didn't see any G4 machine with more than 2 tracks / >100% CPU. Compared to 8 tracks on all Dual Cores.
I was hoping that selling my G4 and buying an MBP would result in no problems, instant talent and world peace. Now it seems there are flies in the ointment...

bummer to hear that. i have a 2.4 ghz MBP; and even though it got a 60% score on the performance test i am still very happy with it. in graphic programs like Photoshop and Painter it handles them extremely well. And in Live, for whatever project i am working on I have never had any problems. why didn't you get it from Apple? they allow a 2 week return period. maybe you should call them. i hope it works out for you.

[quote="lukas412"]My Sonica 2.4 Santa Rosa machine running xp works ridiculously well. 47% in the performance test. I can run it right up to 95% with no glitches and fluid graphics. Must be an OS thing.

Fantastic. So we change our macs to windoof, or what! Am I dreaming? What means Sonica????

Yeah, Im another person with a 17" Santa Rosa Macbook Pro.
Its a piece of sh1t.
55 - 60% and everything starts glitching, popping etc really bad with any audio interface, the onboard, all the different firewire ones Ive tried.
No idea why but no one is interested in the problem.
Apple dont care
Ableton dont care
Im really dissapointed but I have just learnt to accept that the 4 grand (australian) that this cost me was largely a waste of money.
I didnt have any of these problems with my 13" coreduo 2.0 macbook but I do with my 2.4 core2 duo macbook pro.
Im a big mac fan, but there is something fundamentally wrong with this model laptop and Apple blame it on Ableton and Ableton ignore it alltogether.

mbp's are cool (LOL AT ME) as long as they are not infected with that scumware OSX. laggiest piece of turd OS in the history of black turtlenecked faggotry that is apple. you jobs-sucking homo's have to understand this:
ASUS make the mbp but without the plastic crap that has crippled pc laptops
INTEL ensure that is has PC power which smashed all of apples pathetic attempts into oblivion
WINDOWS XP makes it usable. not only does it crash less, lag less and have 900000 times more apps, it also beats OSX at everything it is supposed to be designed for. LOL YOU FAGGOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so basically pc destroyed mac, end of story

I went into the apple store when the new MBP's came out (the santa rosa's) and gave them a try and i was totally surprised at how crappy they ran next to what was then the older 2.16 Macbooks.
It's a real deal PROBLEM for sure.I was planning on getting a MBP but after what i experienced i'd rather an older model and i prefer buying the latest model i can get.
I hope this gets sorted out with a software update or something.I feel for you guys who bought these models.I would be more than pissed about it.
Good luck

You should try using coolbook with the santa rosa's. it's clearly a stepping issue.
