both of them are a bunch of arse - unfortunately, without them we are left to the very limited world of pro audio on Linux, not a very nice experience when one is used to the creature comforts of MIDI, quality virtual instruments and extensive audio and midi editing capabilities as afforded by Live and Cubase. Ardour and Energy XT are just not acceptable replacements when you've been spoiled...

Unfortunatly Apples products arent made with the same quality they sued to be, but if they were then apple would never have taken off the way it has over the last few years becuase thier products would still be too expensive.

Apple stuff is WAY cheaper now, its also made way cheaper....

Frankly I think people are blaming the hardware for what is really the softwares fault.

music soft in the last 2 years has become so buggy. 2 many devs, 2 many different vst's /au's too many different coding styles

lots of problems

Have you ever toyed with mackie tracktion?

You will be amazed buy abe live 6 and 7 if you ever try tracktion. I own tracktion, have not opened it since I bought live 6. now with 7, I am still just blown away at how well live works...

because so much software nowadays is crap

Macs aren't what they used to be...

I had a g3 for 5 years and it never gave me a problem (except the cd rom crapped out after a couple of years).

I bought the mac book pro when it first came out and it cost $3500 and it's a piece of crap. It freezes up all the time, the fan is as loud as a vacuum cleaner, and overall is shit.

I figured it was because it was the first generation of the new technology (intel), but it seems the bugs are still there. I know a dude who bought an iphone and he says it's buggy as fuck...

I learnt from this forum, not to jump on Apple 1st release.
Apple has an history record of failing on first release.
Following your suggestions I bought a C2D Macbook Release 2 (December 2006) and since then, it worked fine.
When Leopard came I did as suggested. A friend of mine bought a 2.2 Ghz SantaRosa MBP and went for the 9.90 Euros upgrade to Leopard. I installed it on an external USB drive, gave it a try. I'm still on Tiger 10.4.11, and I will for long.
Is Leopard giving me better music workflow or something? No.
Coming back on topic, I think Apple has initiated a run to gain Market Share. Now that runs on Intel, many software houses have begun coding their products for Mac. Just like someone else pointed out before, most of the times software is a crap. The software gurus think 'Hey we've got this powerful CPU, we don't need to optimize the code anymore...' shorter product life cycle, more profits. Apple is no different. They had to beat VISTA, they released the Leopard. Too soon.
When Intel launches a new chip/chipset, Apple comes first on the market. They're still learning to merge Job's view of sleek hardware and heat created by Intel's. They were stabilized on C2D standard architecture, then came MacBook Santarosa, Imac Santarosa and lately Macbook Santarosa. iMac has problems, MBP has problems, MB seems to have less. With the next revision all will be fixed.
The trick is not to jump on the latest and greatest. Buy when you need.
Apple is to blame, because a product that expensive has to work since day one.
Maybe even we, the early adopters, are to blame, trapped by the eager of owning the latest thing, only to get '30%' Marketing speed improvement.

So are the iMacs having these deseases as well? Im planning on buying the 24inch model but with the dual 2.8 extreme cpu. Before I spend the 2000 euros, I wanna make sure I buy a fine computer which will still run smoothly after 6 years!

New Aluminum iMac 24" are plagued by a graphic card freeze, that happens often if you play a lot of games and happens (less frequently) on normal duties. Apple has released a firmware and A Leopard Patch so far but it didn't solve the issue. You can check ArsTechnica, Apple Forums, Think Secret or Appleinsider. I'll be waiting for the revision to come in January. It seems an overheating issue of the graphic chip. Nobody can't say how much this happens or it's frequent.

Because at macrumors.com, it says the new iMac is a good buy because it will not be updated anytime soon
Who to believe? They also say this abou the new macbook pro: BUY NOW! JUST BEING UPDATED!

I gig with three Macs and one Pee Cee. They work week-in/week-out without a problem.

And I'd never be foolish enough to buy Rev 1 of anything...
