Ableton Library from external disk

Post by nfms » Tue Dec 11, 2007 3:50 pm

I'm running ableton on my 60 gig macbook. With the arrival of the new EIC2 and session drums I'm running out of space. Is it possible to move my Ableton library to an external disk ?

if so? how ?

Hi,

First thing I would have considered is replacing the internal drive with a larger one (120+Gb) after making an image of the drive. Hopefully software will allow you to recover extra space during restoration.

Now since you won't be probably doing that have you installed Live 7 (I am assuming yes at this point). If so, could you deinstall it and reinstall then point to the new external drive for library installation? Then load EIC2 and Session Drums which should then also be installed there. If you've made changes in the library I don't know how to help There.

This is only a suggestion coming off the top of my head as to what I'd do (and hopefully this works). I am not familiar with the Mac's for the most part. I also am not sure how Live handles moving a library manually, i.e. mount up external drive, COPY library there and change location in your preferences, reboot and see what happens when you load Live next.
