off-time beat... on-time?
off-time beat... on-time?
Hello,
I have this midi clip that, after putting it down, seems to fit somewhere between 4/4 and 5/4 time... I mean that the clip, when it's the length I want it, is ~5.2 measures long. When I try messing with the time signature to try to fit it into a whole measure, it doesn't fit. I don't know how to explain it, but the clip needs to be this length.
No big deal, I thought. The problem arises when I launch clips - they don't launch in time with the crazy midi clip - they wait for whole measures to begin (of course), which is what messes it up.
My question are: a) how do I make the crazy clip fit into a whole measure?; b) is there a way to make clips launch at other times besides at the beginning of a measure?
I hope I don't sound like an idiot, wanting to work with a crazy clip... but I totally understand if you all think I'm just a moron.
If you're confused, I can try to explain more.
Any help would be fantastic.
Good day,

Hello,
Thanks for your suggestion. After thinking about it a bit more, I decided to play with the time signature even more, and well, I found the time signature of the beat - 65/16. Sound weird? It is, but it wouldn't fit into a measure otherwise.
So, it fits. And it's a pain in the ass trying to play guitar to.
Thanks again for the response.
Good day,
Anthony

this sounds wrong to me
If the clip is an odd length, just stretch the clip to be the right length ... no need to tinker with the sig.
I mean - what sig is is actually in? surely not 65/4.
figure out the real sig by tapping along to the pattern (it's most likely something much more common )
select the notes and right click and choose 'stretch midi' or whatever it is called and stretch the midi notes so that they fall on the right beats.
This is how I work all the time, I play a midi part without a metronome, I tap tempo to get the app to be at the right tempo I need - then I stretch the notes to fit in the bars.

Hello,
Okay, I messed with the tempo and was able to put the clip into 4 bars (with a 4/4 signature).
Thanks. That was a lot easier. Of course, then, all the midi notes can't be quantized, which, then, may cause problems when I lay down more midi instruments along with it. I've found it now much harder to warp audio files to the beat. Gah...
Man, I really need to stop going to school and mess with Live more.
