Yes, we do have automatic thinning of recorded automation (and for a long time, at least since Live 3). It usually does a pretty good job too, removing just the breakpoints that are really redundant.

However, for a few parameters, like the Frequency of an AutoFilter, it doesn't work well: in these cases it removes almost all breakpoints, leaving just a straight line where you recorded a nice curve. This is a bug that already existed in Live 6. We are currently looking into it and hope to fix it soon.

Does this explain what you are seeing? Some of you are talking about quantization, I'm not quite sure if you mean the same thing.

yeah it is the same thing, but im pretty certain that its more 'aggressive' in Live 7.

i dont have 6 here to test, but i remember from recording automation via my controller in 6 that it would generate very dense sets of automation points, whereas in 7 they seem a lot more sparse.

Yeah the thinning out of automation is where the problem occurs. Thats what I meant by 'quantization'.. it was just the word I used to explain what was happening.

and i agree it does appear to be more aggressive in 7. I'll try and see if I can recreate the problem with devices other than Autofilter.

thanks for the offical feedback.

i have the following problem when recording automation in arrangement view:

cycle on
arm track off

in live 6.x, if you record some device automation, say, tweak a filter cut off, when the playhead reaches the end of the cycle, the 'back to arrangement' button is hit automatically, meaning as long as you let go of the knob you are tweaking before the end of the cycle, the automation data stays intact. with live 7.x this 'back to arrangement' switch is not selected, and all automation data is lost. the only workaround is to hit F10 as soon as you have made the tweak for it to stay permanent. is this intentional, if so, why?

any help is appreciated
thanks
