New VCI-100 dilemma

Post by jove57 » Wed Dec 12, 2007 8:07 pm

Hey,
I've been playing around with Live for a year on and off now and was planning on moving towards DJ'ing by getting a Vestax VCI-100 as my sole piece of hardware. I was impressed by the avenues for experimentation that it opened up, especially seeing Ean Golden's videos on YouTube of Controllerism.

I'm basically a mere month away from buying it but have just discovered thanks to Mr.Golden himself, that there is a new model of the VCI in the works for next year which tackles some of the physical faults of the original model. And looks much prettier in black. Basically, has anyone here experience with the VCI-100 and found that there are some things lacking with it or should I just venture forth and get the current model?

With the VCI I'd use Traktor for a while to at least build up some digital dj abilities. But if it's deemed worthwhile waiting for the new model of the VCI to come out, I was hoping for some recommendations of what a good digital dj/programming set up would be within a budgetable amount (say around 500 sterling pounds) I've often seen the Trigger Finger mentioned here and am wondering is it enough to have DJ functionality on Ableton? I'm very much into the Amon Tobin style sample based creation and musical experimentation, but would still like to DJ techno sets of the Boyz Noise, Daft Punk, Justice variety.

Long post I know. Sorry if you feel cheated out of your time.
