crackling audio....i need help lads..you could win a prize!!

Hi,
There is a mystery prize for the answer to this problem.....
I mainly produce but just recently have started to DJ....At first there was no problem but 1 has raised its ugly head.., i'm not DJing on a professional level but just for the lads..
i'm using my laptop,plugged into this i have 2 controllers: Axiom25 and X session pro.
i have a USI interface...plugged into that i have an ipod stereo(as i said this is only for the the lads) this is connected via a phono to 3.5mm jack into the ipod unit...
It worked fine for a couple of weeks but now a crackle has developed in the output sound?
i've tried changing the stereo for another stereo but the problem persists.... i've tried removing the controllers but it makes no difference..
there are a couple of things it could be that i can't eliminate at the moment and they are..... The cable from the interfeace to the speakers could be faulty or inadiquate.. And the fact that i had the interface sat ontop of the speaker unit for a few hours before it all went wrong?(could this of fucked it?)

I have the correct asio drivers installed and my laptop is new....the details are listed below.....

Hi Jez,

The Ukulele could of course be the culprit, but let's
inspect the other possibilities first.

Could you give us more details about the crackling?

How often do you hear cracks? How regularly do they
come? Does it happen when you do something (firing
clips, scenes, using controls, turning knobs on your
Axiom, etc) or even when you don't? Does your interface
have a headphones output? Does it also have the cracks?

hi carl,

The crackling is like there is a loose connection and it doesn't seem to matter what i'm doing when it happens...it'll just happen when i'm planying tracks or when there is nothing happening it's weird.
it happens through the cue channel aswell.....i've eliminated the cable i was worried about and the midi controllers, i think it has to be the interface,
by the way i'm on Vista premium if it matters.
i've another problem that might be connected....evry time i try to enable my interface in the preferences it says it was unable to do it load it....so i have to install the drivers every time and then it works fine after that except for cracking issue....

i'll just explain a little about when this first occured carl, i had the set up i've got working for 2 nights no probs at all, but then towards the end of the second night it started to crackle every now and again. and the interface was sat on top of the speaker unit on these nights (it's not now)

Oh and i've restrung the Ukelele but it's made no difference mate
