Live 7 Demo "Broke" My Library Presets in Live 6

Post by Naive Teen Idol » Wed Dec 12, 2007 5:33 am

Countless presets and racks say they are broken now -- corrupt b/c of a newer version. What do I do to recover them?

Hi,

Normally, Live 7 should have warned you about this and prompted you to select another location for your Live 7 Library when it first started. Did this message appear? If not, then it's a bug.

I'm pretty sure it asked me if I wanted to install that library elsewhere -- it didn't say anything about it screwing up Live 6, b/c otherwise I obv. would have followed that.

Is there any way of fixing it?

This is what the Abes sent me:

There are two possibilites when you install the Live 7 demo:

a) you can choose a new place for the Live 7 library in order to prevent
Live from overriding your Live 6 library
b) you do remformat your old Library to the Live 7 format.

You can only cmpletely deinstall everything and reinstall Live 6 if you
want to go back now.

Here´s how:

Start Live, go to Preferences/File Folders and write down the "Library
Path"
* Uninstall Live from 'Control Panel/Software' (WinXP) or remove the
application folder (Mac OSX)
* open Windows Explorer (WinXP) or Finder (OSX) and browse to the
library path
* Delete the Library folder (in fact the whole 'Ableton' folder) -
please make sure you have not stored any personal projects inside this
folder.
* Remove the preferences.cfg file which can be found here:

Mac OSX:
/user/library/preferences/ableton/live x.x/preferences.cfg

WinXP:
C:/documents and settings/[username]/application data/ableton/live
x.x/preferences/preferences.cfg

*Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden
by default. Here is what you have to do to make it visible:
1. Launch Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer!).
2. Select Tools/Folder Options/View.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders."

Best,
C. Kleine

The problem that keeps on giving -- now the Live 7 demo has broken MIDI send via ReWire to Reason.

This is what I recently sent the Abes:

"I recently bought Reason 4, and while I haven't yet reinstalled (or upgraded to 7), by installing Live 7's library in the existing Live 6 library, it's also screwed up the MIDI send from Live to Reason. The only way Live 6 and Reason work together now is if I program all the MIDI for Reason in Reason itself and then just play them in parallel with an audio return. I know this is also because of the demo installation problem b/c when I fire up the Live 7 demo, MIDI sends to Reason instruments work perfectly."

Update Reason to 4.0.1 and see if your problem's fixed.

In the past some people have had success by uninstalling reason, manually deleting any reference to 'rewire' in the registry, and then reinstalling reason

Thanks -- deleting ReWire and reinstalling it seems to have worked here.
