Switching Computers, PC to Macbook, Upgrade to 7?

Post by bauer.cc » Thu Dec 13, 2007 10:14 pm

I've been searching the forum for an answer to this, but I've had no luck.

I'm going to be buying a macbook this month, and right now I have a PC. I was wondering A) how to transfer Live from a PC to a mac (or from computer to computer in general) and B) if all the music I've created will be compatible.

I was wondering if, since I'll be upgrading to Live 7 anyways, if I should do all this together?

Thanks in advance!

Just install the Mac version and register using your PC serial. Ableton support are great if you have trouble. The reply to emails pretty promptly.

You can have two installations of live under the fair use policy.

You can open a live song file in OS X or Windows without converting (or you could in 6, havn't tried it in 7 but I suspect it's still the same). All the built in effects and instruments will transfer.
Third party effects and virtual instruments would be the main area to look into. I read that the presets used don't transfer well.

Save each song as " collect all and save " so the associated files are all together.
Live 7
15" MacBook Pro OS X 10.5 Leopard
Intel C2D,2.4 GHz,2 GB RAM
Novation X-Station, Korg T-2, BDJ-3000, Ms Pinky vinyl.

Under abletons licensing policies they state that a separate license needs to be purchased if you want to install live on both a pc and mac. The current license you have for your pc cannot be used on a mac. I wonder if they give a discount in this case?
