MIDI latency????!!

Hi there!

I just got the v7 and i got a latency problem.

When i play the bass via my audio card i can control the latency setting the buffers sizes an number.

But when i'm playing with my midi keyboard i'm getting too much latency and is impossible to create anything. How can i control that? this latency is not always the same. Normally when i play around with a new set is shorter.

Can anyboddy help me??!!!!!!!!

With v6 i also had this problem but not sooo extrem!!

All i know is that latency is determined by the buffer setting and should apply to both audio and midi. The latency-time should be the same for both. And i'm talking about the buffer settings on your soundcard. Did you choose ASIO as driver in Live?

Yes. I got an asio usb card.

Yesterday i wanted to record a bass line. I made first a drum loop using the pads of my axiom. It was completely impossibe to record this way iin time with the click so i drawed the notes with the mouse. Afterwards i started recording the bass with zero problems.

some help?!!

do you really mean "MIDI latency"? Because MIDI itself takes up very little CPU.

Do you have some sort of MIDI hardware that is making the sounds, or are you using plugins? I assume some sort of plugins.

Becuase if you are getting letency inside Live when you are trying to use some sort of plugin, then, yes, latency can be an issue.... i.e. the computer is thinking pretty hard about making sound and playing that sound back, and it can't quite do both at the same time.

The Live manual has a bunch of info on reducing CPU load.
What is your CPU load?

Beyond that, you have have to clean up your system. What is your system? XP? Vista? Mac?

What plugins are you using?

And, asltly, cram33 already asked you: are you using ASIO drivers? becuase if you are in windows, and you dont have ASIO drivers... well, you are fighting a losing battle.

It sounds like its a result of having your plug in delay compensation settings wrong. You do not want live to compensate for plug in delay while simultaneously transmitting MIDI data to an external synth.

actually, i've run into this too with certain of the new instruments (most noticeable with drum machines). i thought it was something in my system i still can't figure out, but my setup is identical to what i was using in version 6 with no latency issues at all.

latency may not be the right word for midi, but there's definitely additional delay in live 7 for me with certain instruments. as i said in another thread, i assume i'm overlooking something obvious, but it's driving me nuts with drum machines. (it's not a PDC issue.)

Have a look in midi prefs unfold your input and flip the Direct/MME option this worked for me.

The plug-in delay compensation? I just find the driver delay comp. and it's set to zero. Where can i find what you say?

About the midi prefs. i don't see what you mean but in any case yes, i'm using an asio usb card. I think i don't have the option that you say, just USB axion 25 in1, USB axiom 25 in2 and USB audio device.

Normally i use kontakt to create my drums. Sometimes i load an instance of it and i trigger the sounds with the pads in axiom and no problem... but sometimes i just can't play in time becouse of that latency.

Yes i'm running with asio driver, P4 3Ghz 1,25Gb RAM, XP

I'm using only pluggins and there is no significant load on the CPU meter.

i've the same problem with my oxygen49 in live 7 (not 6).
the master key is connected via USB and use own drivers, so is not releated with the midi interface latency.
i use same settings for 6 and 7 but the latency remain on 7..

i've not al7 here but you can try changeing the midi port type in MME in the midi prefernces of your device.

I had this problem when I installed Live 7 just now.

I unchecked all my MIDI In "Track" buttons and then rechecked them and now it's working fine. Something to try.
