I have bought ableton live 6 LE and running it on my PC (AMD 2700) which is dying slowly. I have a 1.5 GHX G4 powerbook with 1.5 GB RAM that I use for design work.
My Question are :
1. Will this comfortably run Abelton if I use an external hard drive for storing Audio.
2. What External Audio device will I need to run with the powerbook and Novation ReMOTE 25 ? I was thinking about the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile as I can use it for ableton possibly live or DJing in the future
3. Will running design software such as CS2 or Studio MX2004 affect the performance of live..as long as I'm not running them at the same time.
Thanks for any advice.

1. It will run Live, but it has not much power for many vst(i)s
2. You don t need one, but nearly any will work. A better alternative to m-audio is for example the presonus firebox
3. No

Would an iMac G5 be a better option then for running live and VSTis ?

my duel 1.8 G4 barely cuts it
dual 1.8 G4 10.4.9 w/768 ram & A&H xone 3D

yeah my thinking was an iMac Intel G5...although have to wait until Adobe fix problems with CS2 on Leopard in the new year. I think my PC will survive until then
Firebox looks a better deal by far

I have the same powerbook configuration as you and use Live 6 with little to no problems. Sure, you can't run a hundred plug-ins at once, but with a little creativity it will stretch to do what you want.
I recommend running an external HD off the FW800 bus for storing audio. An external audio card is recommended but you should figure out how many inputs you need. You can possibly get by on a very basic 2in/2out interface, but if your budget will stretch to one of the nicer MOTU FW interfaces, you should do that.
