VSTi folder crashes live4 to desktop

I can't get L401 to read the vst folder- I get a Direct draw initialisation failed message and CTD with a jammed soundcard- reset needed to stop the buzzing. I've sent the log file to Ableton- no response since 1st Aug- and tried deleting the preferences file- no joy. Anyone worked around this one? VST folder fine in other apps. No problem in L3 either. Help!

Now fixed by creATING AN EFFECTS FOLDER FOR LIVE ONLY AND FEEDING IN FX ONE BY ONE. There was something in my general vst folder (instruments as well as effects) that screwewd live up
