This is a minor issue, but as I create larger and larger sets, it is becoming a problem.
I'm using my Korg Microcontroller with Live 4 and Reason and it works like a champ. I have typically mapped a pad to a particular slot on a track that is permanently set up to record in session view, so no matter what patch I'm playing along with in reason via rewire, I can smack the pad to start and stop the recording and the new looped clip magically starts playing.
I have set up a total of 10 tracks from l-r
1 Beats
2 Beats
3 Beats
4 Beats
5 Beats
6 Bass
7 Comp
8 Pad
9 Misc
10 Record
When I finish recording a clip, I drag it over to the appropriate track, where it continues playing. This 1) frees up the recording slot/track for a new clip and 2) Enables monitoring, so audio from Reason/Rewire is audible again.
Here is the problem: By having a dedicated slot (at the very top scene nof my ableton session), my currently-playing scenes may be many pages away from it, so to delete it, drag it, or to change the settings of the new clip requires much scrolling around in session view.
My current workaround is to keep re-mapping the midi assignment in live to my MicroKontroller pad (it prompts me if I want to override the existing mapping), so my active recording slot is in the same scene as the one currently playing. It's a little cumbersome. If I map to the track's record button, it doesn't trigger the slot recording. I don't want it to start recording when I fire off a scene, so I have that function turned off.
Any creative suggestions for this?
I'm giving 4.0 a big workout tonight with a DJ in front of a few hundred people in Hollywood, so wish me luck.
Cheers.
Mapping of Record function for use in live situation
Here is my workaround:
Midi Map the SCENE...not the clip. I use the Edirol PCR-30. So I have, for example, Native Instruments B4 on a Midi Track. I Midi assign the ARM button to, say, G#1 on the Edirol. (I use labels on the keys).
Then assign a midi command to the horizontal scenes...C2, C#2, D2, D#2, etc, etc. And then turn ON the pref for "Record Clip On Scene Launch" or whatever it is. Now, with the track ARMED, you can make clip after clip vertically as you fire the scenes.
You will certainly want to make use of removing Slot buttons...perhaps because you don't want the audio clips to start...or because you don't want the VSTi to record. I use Groove Agent on a track, and I have all the slots removed, so I can send it midi commands (for fills and whatnot) but it doesn't record when I switch scenes.
This is as good as you can hope for, in my opinion. Not perfection...but Ableton (and us) are in new uncharted waters, yes? We are pioneers, dog.

Ha...haven't gotten down there yet: I'm in Portland. But I just sent off 10 CD's to L.A. yesterday...let's cross our fingers. In the meantime, fire me an email (through Solovox.com) and I'll make sure you get the word when I do come to town: I'm a vintage synth-meets-Ableton Herbie Hancock-Chemical Brothers-keyboard explosion one-man act.
