Why doesn't Ableton 7 pick up my midi control assignments???

Why doesn't Ableton 7 pick up my midi control assignments???

I click on the midi button on the top right, and I try to assign a knob from my mpd24 to a specificcontrol in Ableton, and it doesn't pick it up. THis is the first time it has happened! Any answers????

enable REMOTE IN for that port in the midi preferences
